2015When the Plain Dealer endorsed me for re-election as Lakewood Mayor on Oct. 25, 2007 the editorial stated in part: "George has specific ideas such as reducting permit fees, currrently a disincentive for developers. He also has begun more aggressive housing code inspections and prosecutions.....Lakewood needs a mayor who is able to see creative ways of dealing aggressively with its problems....George's steadiness and experience make him a better candidate."In fact, in 20 years of elective office, I was routinely endorsed by newspapers, organized labor, police, fire, environmental and other organizations who make it their point to monitor the daily workings of government. I was honored to serve as President of the Ohio Municipal League, an organization that represents the interests of all of Ohio's cities, from Cleveland to the tiniest village in southern Ohio. And I served as Vice-Chair of the National League of Cities First Suburbs Committee, a group dedicated to learning and sharing best practices for managing inner ring suburbs. Through it all, I have always and will continue to do conduct my affairs in a respectful and honest manner. At a time when nearly 100 Cuyahoga County officials were either named or convicted in the high profile Cuyahoga County government prosecutions, you will note that my name has not even been mentioned in association with wrongdoing or unethical behavior.Both my parents both instilled in me a lifelong respect for inclusiveness. My record as a public servant and my personal life reflect those values.
