Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

Neighborhood Planner for the Far West District of the City of Cleveland.Responsible for planning coordination with six different Community Development Corporations and six different City Council persons for a geography containing 90,000 persons.Work includes:* Administer existing zoning code.* Develop new zoning regulations with a focus on form-based zoning and sign code.* Geographic Information Systems: mapping, analysis, and data acquisition.* Develop and implement neighborhood plans in consultation with Community Development Corporations and Council People.* Public speaking: Make presentations to Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and neighborhood groups.* Contract administration.* Customer service - greet walk-in customers, assess needs, solve problems.Work performed:* Drafted form-based zoning regulations, sign regulations, and zoning code tweaks.* Administered Design Review Committee (similar to Architectural Review Board), stewarded development proposals through a rigorous review process.* Developed neighborhood plans, working in close consultation with Community Development Corporations.* Prepared and implemented zoning maps changes from start to finish.* Navigated a complex, political environment, balancing needs of Council Persons, Community Development Corporations, Community Groups, and other City Departments to provide professional and even-handed planning services to a racially, ethnically, and economically diverse set of neighborhoods.* Provided recommendations and technical assistance to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and Landmarks Commission.*Provided excellent customer service to members of the public. Doing my part to improve the public’s perception of Cleveland’s City government.
