Kandi Corp's business involved wholesaling & light manufacturing including the assembly of retail packs from unfinished gross purchases of embellishment products like Swarovski crystals and accessories. I performed bank reconciliations, posted GJEs, processed AP, analyzed GL accounts, developed production labor costs and performed, updated physical inventory. I worked with ProBooks accounting software and with MS Excel 2003 and MS Access 2003 and have experience in importing, filtering and analyzing accounting data using Excel pivot tables.Shortly after starting my engagement in the fall of 2007, I discovered that there was GL detail missing from file for the first 4 periods of FY2007. Apparently, there had been an accident with the computer some months before and the data had not been properly restored from backup. We were able to recover most of the missing data from backup media but there were several weeks that remained missing. The accounting system printed a batch report for every posting to the GL. These reports were the primary resource for recovering the missing data. However, the posting reports were not maintained in good order, they were not filed by posting journal i.e. AP, AR, PR etc, nor were they kept together in sequence. Many reports were misfiled with invoices. The gap in the batch sequencing indicated there were several hundred missing postings.The problem was not helped by the failure of the accounting software to maintain a log of batch numbers that accounted for voids and which journal posted a batch number. Nor were there any procedures for manually documenting when posting reports failed to print or were fouled in the printer. I was able to account for all missing GL Detail and restore it by manually entering each missing posting by general journal entry . I was also able reconcile the bank accounts for every period of FY2007 without adjustments for unidentified items or amounts and on time for year end.

I worked as a Tax Consultant and provided telephone support to users of online tax preparation software for the 2007 tax season. Ceridian operated Military OneSource under contract from the Department of Defense. The tax prep service was offered as a benefit to active duty and retired military members and their families.I answered inquiries about taxes and the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns called in from across the country and the world. I also phone interviewed clients and guided them through the preparation and filing process using the online software.

My self employment went through ups and downs but by 2005, it was clear the custom computer sales and consulting business that had been the bulk of my business was no longer as viable for the small operator. The competition from mass marketers like Dell and HP/Compaq combined with plummeting hardware prices meant smaller and fewer commissions for the small business. So I decided to pursue employment.

Cotee River Outdoor Advertising was a new outdoor advertising company formed by former GFOA management, marketing and operating personnel. CROA managed physical plant comprised of outdoor advertising structures under management agreements with owners/investors plus some company owned structures purchased from GFOA. I setup and managed the accounting and computer system functions for CROA and for some managed companies in a multi-company office environment. CROA was itself taken under a management agreement by Rite Media of Revere, MA with a purchase option. CROA offices moved to Rite Media's offices in North Tampa. Rite Media assumed the AP, AR and PR responsibilities and CROA personnel, including myself, were paid as employees of Rite Media. During this time I was still responsible for the accounting for CROA and it's management contracts and submitted AP, AR & PR data to Revere, MA, for billing and payment. Rite Media opted out of the purchase contract at the end of a year and I re-assumed the responsibilities for AP, AR and PR.

When Dyco went through a management reorganization I left to take a position as Controller/Accounting Manager with Greater Florida Outdoor Advertising, LTD in Pasco county.GFOA was a regional outdoor advertising company formed by an investor group that acquired the assets of several smaller companies with advertising structures located in Pasco and adjacent counties. GFOA managed the physical plant of outdoor advertising structures purchased from the predecessor companies and acquired and built additional structures. GFOA had facilities, equipment and personnel to acquire permits, leases and fabricate new structures, contracting the on-site erection and installation.I managed all accounting functions and record systems except payroll and oversaw the setup and transition to in-house computer system. I setup accounting and database systems for GL, AP, AR and the physical plant. GFOA acquired a CIE system similar to Dyco's so I was able to develop and customize accounting and database applications using Pro-IV. GFOA needed extensive customization to support the needs of a multi-company management environment plus the unique data needs of outdoor advertising operations.GFOA's investors sold their interest in the company along with the bulk of it's physical plant to Whiteco-Metrocom as of December 31, 1986. I continued with a successor company, Cotee River Outdoor Advertising in New Port Richey, FL.

Dyco was a regional maker of paint, coating and caulk products which it sold mostly to contractors and resellers. Dyco made water(latex) and solvent based products and had the facilities for receiving and storing bulk raw materials as well as for producing, containerizing, storing and shipping finished goods.Production was controlled by batches and involved the mixing of liquid and dry ingredients.I was Dyco's first controller and managed the transition from manual procedures and time-share computer services to an in-house multi-user computer system.I was responsible for all accounting functions including GL, AR, AP and PR. I worked under the corporate treasurer and shared staff with her.Dyco had acquired a Fortune multi-user computer system which proved to be inadequate for the company's needs. The computer was replaced with a CIE multi-user system shortly before I left.Both systems used a Unix derived/subset operating system - ForPro and Regulus, respectively. I was the system administrator for both.Each system was acquired with source code and programming software for developing and customizing accounting and database applications: SMC(Thoroughbred) Basic on the Fortune system and Pro-IV on the CIE system. C-ISAM data file structures were used on both systems.I taught myself how to modify and customize accounting and database applications on both systems.Shortly after acquiring the CIE system, Dyco went through a management reorganization at which time I left to take a position as Controller/Accounting Manager with Greater Florida Outdoor Advertising, LTD in Pasco county.

US Home was the 2nd largest residential developer and builder in the US. It had operating divisions in the fastest growing metro areas in Florida, Texas, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada. Besides residential construction, some divisions were involved in land development, modular home manufacturing and lumber & building material yards. Today, US Home is a subsidiary of Lennar Homes.As internal audit staff, I traveled to cities where operating divisions were located and conducted an audit of the divisions financial reports. Each division audit was scheduled to be completed within a calendar month. Auditors would return to the corporate offices in Houston by the beginning of the next month to finish the audit reports, attend department meetings and plan for the next month's audit assignment. In any month there were as many as 4 divisions being audited. For the larger divisions, more auditors were assigned so as to complete audits within the monthly cycle.Audit procedures included review of contracts and closings, confirmation of deposits, reconciliation of bank accounts, observation of physical inventory which was mostly homes in stages of construction, documentation of internal controls and evaluation of compliance to the controls and to corporate policies.I was hired as an Internal Auditor by the Clearwater Internal Audit Department which had responsibility for auditing operations in Florida. Soon after my hire, changes in the organization of the audit department brought auditors in Florida under the corporate audit department in Houston, TX. The corporate audit department adopted a policy of assigning auditors without consideration of the auditor's state of residence and the impact on travel expense.Out of state travel was over 75% which far exceeded what I was told to expect when I was hired from the Clearwater office. I left to take a position as Controller with Dyco Chemicals and Coatings in Clearwater, FL.

Union Oil Company of California [dba Unocal] was a vertically integrated petroleum products company with interests in oil and gas reserves, wells&well heads, pipelines, terminals, refineries, truckstops and retail outlets. Unocal produced a full range of petroleum based products including motor fuels, heating oil, lubricants, adhesives, chemical stocks, asphalt/bottoms and graphite products. Today, Unocal is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron.I worked as an internal auditor out of corporate offices in Atlanta, GA. I participated in and conducted audit assignments in the southeast region including Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.Internal audits involved vouching shipping/receiving data to documents kept on site, documenting, analyzing and summarizing variances; on site confirmation of stocks on-hand and evaluating compliance to internal controls.Audit assignments required travel by company auto which I was allowed to drive home and then travel directly to assignments. Audit assignments were usually scheduled by a route that returned to Atlanta in less than 2 weeks with multiple stops that required from a few hours to a few days to complete. Most assignments were with at least one other auditor.About every 3-4 months, an audit assignment of 3 or 4 auditors was scheduled for the refinery facility in Beaumont, TX, which would extend beyond 2 weeks. Each return to the refinery would audit a different part of refinery operations.Besides the refinery, audit assignments included terminal and pipeline operations, truckstops, well fields, company retail stations, chemical processing (polymer) plants and a graphite production plant.While living in Atlanta, I was getting bad news from my family in Florida. My father was ill with cancer and my mother was having difficulties with my younger brother. I left Unocal to take a job that I thought would keep me closer to home.

After graduating from the University of Florida in March of 1977, I continued to work for Sears credit operations but transferred from the Sears in Gainesville to the Sears Credit Operations Center in St.Petersburg while applying for work with Tampa Bay area CPA firms. In 1978, I took a staff accountant position with the firm of Andretta, Walsh & Glover, CPAs, located in the Westshore area in east Tampa.As staff accountant, I prepared worksheets, schedules and analyses of client accounts - I gained proficiency with the 10key calculator. I posted transactions to client ledgers, prepared accrual and closing entries and worked GL trial balances to financial statements. And I prepared individual, partnership, trust, estate and corporation tax returns for review and signature by firm partners. I was appointed to co-ordinate the firms' relationship with the computerized tax preparation service.A principal client owned controlling interests in several local banks which engaged AW&G to prepare their audited financial statements. I participated in these and other audit assignments by observing fixed assets and inventories, preparing account and deposit confirmations, summarizing responses and interviewing client personnel with questions about procedures.The client also had investments in a title company, a fuel oil company and a general store in downtown Tampa. I was assigned the task of reconstructing accounts for the title company after a fire destroyed some records. I also participated in a fraud audit at the general store when an employee was discovered to have been taking from the cash drawers.I passed the CPA exam while working at AW&G.

West Library, University Of Florida, Gainesville, Fl

I worked part-time in the circulation department alternate weekday evenings and alternate saturday mornings. In the evenings, after the circulation department closed at 9pm, I manned the security cubicle at the entrance where I inspected bags of patrons for library property. Just prior to closing, I locked the front doors so patrons could exit but not enter and took the elevator to the 8th floor and walked each floor clearing the library of any patrons and walked down the stairs. On reaching the ground floor, I shut down the elevators, turned off the lights and exited the building.On alternate saturday mornings I would meet with campus security who would let me into the library an hour before the circulation desk opened. I turned the lights and the elevators on then unlocked the front doors and manned the security cubicle at the entrance until the circulation desk opened where I would work until 1pm.This was a great job for a student. I could study while manning the security post. Plus there are many interesting books and people in a library on a university campus.But, tuition rates went up and my GI Bill benefit didn't. In 1975, I left the library to take a better paying job with more hours with Sears.

I enlisted in the Air Force in the fall of 1968. I had graduated high school that June and turned 18 that August. My draft number was 45, I was going to be drafted if I didn't go to college. I couldn't afford college.On the afternoon of November 7, I boarded a bus to take me to the Coral Gables induction center. I was inducted on November 8.I was flown to San Antonio, TX, that evening and taken by military bus to Lackland AFB for basic training. I was at Lackland for Christmas and New Years. In early January, I got orders for Electronics Training at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS, for what was supposed to be 9 months of training in electronics and telecommunication systems.However, on August 17, Hurricane Camille made landfall on the gulf coast just to the west of Biloxi, near Gulfport, MS. All classes were suspended for several weeks for the emergency. All military, including students, were given assignments to assist in the emergency.Classes eventually resumed and I completed training a month or so later than originally planned.I arrived at my first permanent station, Bergstrom AFB near Austin, TX, that november. Bergstrom turned out to be my only station until I was discharged June 7, 1972. That was 5 months early due to the budget cutbacks that were being made in that year. I was eligible for early discharge by having a scheduled discharge date, Nov 7, that was within 5 months of the end of the fiscal year, which was June 30 at that time.My duty section was responsible for the deployment, setup, operation and maintenance of communication systems supporting a tactical operations control center.While at Bergstrom, we had been deployed several times a year. We were being readied for possible deployment to southeast asia. Vietnam was on our minds and not much else until about november 1971.Then, less than a year from separating, the worry of a southeast asia tour faded. The belief was tours there were always for at least a year.
