The Technology Translation Squad (TTS) is a TRaCE initiative that provides rapid support for SMEs, startups, and established industry players. I am one of the electrical engineers who are on hand to give ‘roadside’ assistance to overcome technical challenges in the decarbonisation and electrification sector.The position draws on my over three decades of experience in product design, from conceptualization to manufacturing. Having studied the design process in my PhD in 1999, I appliy this knowledge daily in the TTS, collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders to drive innovation.

I manage a team of design engineers, technicians and assembly workers covering the full development cycle from idea to manufactured Product. I develop the concept, plan the project and oversee the execution. My work includes collaboration with mechanical engineers, process engineers and industrial designers and liaison with clients including contract negotiation. I manage manufacturing from single runs to 2,000 units a month.

As Senior Tutor I coordinated the personal tutorial system, reporting directly to the Dean. Otherduties included screening of applicants for the faculty recruitment committee and leading thedepartment in obtaining accreditation for the Electronics degree programme. I continued toteach courses and to consult for industrial partners.

I lectured in analogue and digital electronics, microprocessors, computer architecture andcomputer networking in the Department of Electronic Engineering. I supervised severalundergraduate capstone projects each year. I developed a network of contacts and began anongoing consultancy to industry.

I lectured at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in digital electronics, computer networks,computer architecture and artificial intelligence. I supervised 12 under-graduate projects and 6Masters theses. I continued to publish my research on protocol studies of designers incollaboration with the Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition in Sydney. I was invited topresent a course in digital electronics in Wernigerode, Germany. I consulted on a project for theMinistry of Agriculture, (Thailand).

The research project investigated the conceptual design process. The work measured designerfixation by assessing how process output is affected by exposure to design examples. The workalso investigated the design process by recording designers on video and subsequently analysingthe designers' actions.

I tutored and lectured in a range of associate diploma and undergraduate subjects. I wascoordinating lecturer for analogue and digital electronics and electronic manufacturing. I was atutor and laboratory assistant in digital electronics, electronic communications andmicroprocessors. I began conducting research on the conceptual design process in 1992. I wasinvolved in several consulting projects with industry.
