Tom McVey is an international corporate attorney and business advisor. He previously served as the Chair of the International Section at the law firm of Williams Mullen in Washington, DC. Mr. McVey focuses his practice on international business law, including the Export Administration Regulations, the OFAC sanctions programs, ITAR, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the anti-boycott laws and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). He also advises on cross-border business transactions including international sales and distribution, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, international business planning and corporate compliance. He was a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), 23rd Plenary Session, 1990-1992.Tom has been listed regularly in Washington D.C. Super Lawyers magazine since 2010. He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© for International Trade and Finance Law on a regular basis since 2010. He was also named to Washington SmartCEO’s inaugural list of Washington’s “Legal Elite”.He is a regular speaker on international business topics, including at numerous PLI Seminars on Advanced Corporate Compliance, as a previous co-chair of American Conference Institute Conferences on Export Controls and at events by the American Corporate Counsel Association, the U.S. International Trade Administration, Compliance Week and the National Defense Industrial Association. He is a contributing author to numerous treatises and publications including International Corporate Practice (Practicing Law Institute), United States Export Controls (Law Journal Press), Lexis Corporate Compliance Practice Guide (Matthew Bender/LexisNexis) and Corporate Legal Departments (Practicing Law Institute).Tom received his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University, where he received the Caroline Phelps Stokes Award.
