Coming home from Australia with the idea of moving away to canada to work made it difficult for work as I do not like to be disloyal. My friend was leaving her job on maternity leave and had suggested I put a CV in and try to cover her maternity cover, this suited me perfect and the experience of which I had obtained during my years at university had very much been perfect for this role. The role however was challenging I had to adapt from working on my feet and moving around all day to sitting at a computer and making sure that I did not make any mistakes as this was a crucial part of the role. During this time we were exporting dairy products world wide and my role was to apply to the department of agriculture for veterinary certificates to show what we were exporting were safe. Also I would have to deal with shipping companies and other people in the office to ensure all documents were complete before shipping e.g customs, Bill's of lading. On occasion I would be working 2/3 days in advance.

During my time in Australia I decided that I would like to try myself at something a little more challenging, I had previously worked face to face customer service jobs and wanted to try something more labouring. At the beginning I started as a basic general labourer in a formwork company, simply tidying around the site, moving around materials and not very much using tools. As time went on I started using tools, helping carpenters fit and cut ply. Setting up frames, helping with the fitting of stairwells, making sure that all the under bearings with correct to make sure that it was safe to pour concrete without chances of collapse. During this 2 year period I was involved in the building of a 12 story hotel and a project know as 'M-City' which involved a hotel, 2 apartment blocks and a shopping centre along with an outdoor swimming pool. I learnt alot about myself and gained so much confidence during this time.

During my time at Tesco I had various roles including the control of stock and ensuring stock levels were maintained, working on the customer service desk and helping customers with enquiries that they may have had, working on tills and ensuring not to make mistakes while dealing with money to ensure people were both not over or under charged for their groceries. However, my main task of course was that I focused on providing our customers with the best service of which I could offer. This was my first job while I was in education and taught me alot on dealing with customers face to face, working as part of a team to the greatest effect, and importantly while studying how to manage my time so that I did not get too caught up. I learned alot of life skills which have taken with me and will continue to take with me.

During my time at the star neighbour centre I was a volunteer who would be called upon to help with such things as; residential trips, youth developmental courses and community summer schemes. This stemmed from me taking part in these activities when I was younger and as I got to my teenage it was a passion of me through the admiration of my previous leaders and how much they wanted to help us grow and develop. Unfortunately I had to remove my name from the bank of volunteers as I was moving to Australia to live. However, my passion is still there for this type of work and I have since graduated in sociology and criminology as I wanted to better understand the mindsets of youth and try to help them stay away from crime.
