Northumbrian Water (as part of their digital strategy) have recently awarded a contract for the supply of unified communications to a new partner. The first phase of the programme is to migrate services including mobile, fixed telephony and wide area network links to the new supplier. My specific role includes working as part of the project team to:• Create a robust asset register of sites, fixed lines and private circuits.• Analyse and capture information on the use of assets e.g. purpose, criticality, use e.g. SCADA.• Cleanse data e.g. site addresses / analogue phone numbers and cross reference to billing information.• Identify assets that are no longer required or are being billed when not in service i.e. suspending/ceasing lines to deliver cost savings.• Investigate any non-transferable analogue lines and liaise with new supplier to install new solutions.• Create a process to ensure the information is kept accurate and up to date between supplier records and the NWG records. • Provide engineer resource to the mobile switch over by issuing new phones, swapping out SIM cards, providing on-site assistance/education to customers, and informing policy and best practice.
