Creator of the OPEN EYES/American Civics Project: In 1994 with the support of Dr. Howard Gardner and his Project Zero Staff (Bruce Torff, Seymour Simmons and Donna Plasket), I created the OPEN EYES Project. It provides a curricular approach which integrates important new ideas about how individuals learn with equally powerful ideas about how to educate. The OPEN EYES/American Civics Project seeks to use advances in technology to join the educational community both horizontally and vertically in shared research, preparation, practice, evaluation and sustained dialogue. It is visionary in its understanding that education is a continuous and fluid process and practical in its efforts to include the larger community in creating new paradigms. With the ever expanding role of technology in the classroom, the opportunity to replace expensive, outmoded textbooks with lucid, interactive curriculum holds tremendous potential for affording every child in our Country with a quality education.

In 2008 I was an Art Professor at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA. In my "Art Appreciation" course I would assign the students art projects that used photographs, newspapers, collage and stencils (Bauhaus/Rauschenberg). I had originally created this lesson plan in 1993 when I was the art teacher at Rock Hill High School in South Carolina. My OPEN EYES rubric was based on the Matiere lesson plan developed at the German Bauhaus by Josef Albers in 1926. In 2016 the Santa Ana Unified School District asked me to create an American Civic's rubric at the same time my attorney brother was looking for a vehicle to promote the Jim Marshall Photographic Archive (1 million photographs of Monterey Pop, Woodstock, Jimi Hendrick, Johnny Cash, John Coltrane and Miles Davis) who he represented. Also at that time Shepard Fairey was getting sued and threatened with jail time for lifting UPI photographs off the Internet for his Obama "Hope" Poster. In 2008, I created an Obama "Hope" collage to provide my students with an irreverent perspective of his messianic persona (Black Jesus). In 2016, through a mutual friend, I connected with Shepard and pitch him my American Civic's concept using the hook of free access to the Marshall Archives. Thus "American Civics" was born. Shepard then use my rubric to create his "Damaged Show" format in 2017. Just like many of my concepts, I got the shaft and Shepard's "Obey gangstas" got the gold. l never received any credit or monetary compensation; OPEN EYES/Chinagate deja-vu all over again! (smile)

In 1986, I became the Manager of the Merrium Apartments located on 14th and K Street in Sacramento CA. The Merrium was built in 1912 and designed by a colleague of California architect Julia Morgan. When I took over the Merrium it was a "flophouse", within two years I turned it into the icon for Historical Preservation in Sacramento. This was the first time I, personally, went Mano a Mano with the Chicago Outfit (The Pritzker Family/Hyatt Hotels). I won, but had to leave Sacramento. Now I am up against the same goodfellas in my hometown of Carlsbad, CA (La Costa Nostra), but this time it is for keeps. I am willing to die on this hill. Read "Supermob" by Gus Russo. Since Oct. 2023, over 200,000 Israelis, with dual US citizenship, have been displaced from Israel's Northern Region by Hezbollah, where will the Israeli oligarchs seek refuge, Iowa? No, they will resettle in Carlsbad (North County San Diego) where they own the power (NRG) and water (Poseidon) grids, the universities, tech industries and the politicians. Just like the Kibbutzes (Settler Colonialism), they will displace the indigenous communities (Generational Californians) one way or another (Nakba).
