Following the return to work of my colleague on paternity leave, I moved back to the Data Analytics team, this time in a lead role. A key responsibility was to learn R in order to carry out data manipulation and build predictive models in that software, and to train others in the team on how to do so. Key skills include the ability to build, interpret, and communicate the results of complex models, as well as tutoring others (including line management). I have taken well to R, moving from a novice in 2022 to the department's expert, responsible for building and maintaining an internal package. I have also had successes in utilising machine learning techniques when building predictive models. This was helped by completing a formal learning course: Level 7 AI & Data Science, attaining a merit grade.

Upon completing the Actuarial exams in 2021, I was promoted and began by covering a colleague's paternity leave. I was responsible for managing the portfolio of individual people who purchase PMI. One key responsibility was to suggest price changes, based on factors such as Aviva's commercial objectives and balancing the book to ensure fairness to our customers. I was also a key cog in monitoring our risk and control environment, directly responsible for a number of controls.A key skill for this role was the ability to present recommendations to a diverse group of stakeholders and understand their points of view, to help the forum make the best decision for the business.

Worked across 3 teams due to a company rotation scheme:Group Life & Group Income Protection Reporting team (July 16 - March 18)PMI Large Corporate Pricing (March 18 - November 20)PMI Data Analytics (November 20 - July 21)In the Reporting team I worked on both Group Life and Income Protection product lines, which involved the use of Prophet, VBA, and SAS. During my time in the team I suggested and implemented several process changes to improve efficiency, many of these due to increased automation.In the PMI Large Corporate pricing team I was primarily responsible for dealing with ad-hoc pricing queries, where I needed to recommend a price for unusual requests. These typically needed to be answered within hours, so being able to arrive at a sensible solution quickly, despite limited data, was a key skill. Communication with the underwriting team was also extremely important in order to fully understand the request and to ensure understanding of any caveats surrounding my recommendation.In the PMI Data Analytics team I worked on a variety of projects, including building predictive models in Emblem and providing the Sales team with an interactive dashboard to help them in their discussions with brokers. Key skills were technical modelling, manipulation of data in SAS and Excel, and communication.
