Senior Sustainability Advisor
CurrentTom is a Senior Sustainability Advisor at Seymour Whyte.Tom works within infrastructure construction, predominately transport infrastructure.Tom's primary responsibilities are preparing and implementing the Sustainability Management Plan, Recycled First Plan, Low Carbon Concrete Implementation Plan and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Opportunities.Tom works across the full project lifecycle from design, procurement, construction and completions.Throughout design, Tom manages sustainability risk and opportunities, including climate risk, material usage, energy usage, water usage, and biodiversity. The main emissions associated with the design are concrete and steel, and Tom created a detailed plan for each element. The main opportunities for reuse and use of recycled materials are within these concrete structures, steel structures, road pavements, drainage infrastructure and drainage infrastructure.During procurement, Tom engaged with suppliers and set package specific sustainability targets to meet the overall project targets. Packages included temporary works, the construction compound setup, material supply agreements, plant hire, construction delivery packages, waste management, etc. Tom also collaborated with the commercial team to review the social procurement aspects of tenders.During construction, Tom managed the sustainability monitoring, inspections, auditing, reporting, reviews, knowledge sharing and decision making. There was a particular emphasis on energy, water, materials, waste and biodiversity during this phase.During completions, Tom focuses on adding value to sustainability submissions. Identifying ways to demonstrate compliance with sustainability requirements and creating a clear and concise narrative to convey the performance of the project.
