As a Manager of Foundation Relations, I wrote grant proposals and reports to show donors the return on their investment in Mercatus and to excite them about future funding opportunities. My other responsibilities included understanding prospective and current donor interests and activities to find areas of alignment with the Mercatus Center's vision. I also was tasked with understanding Mercatus research and activities and articulating these succinctly in written and verbal communications with donors.On the trouble-shooting front, among my successes were contacting a lapsed donor, discussing the concerns that caused him to stop giving, and working with top management at Mercatus to alleviate those concerns, with the result that this donor resumed his giving. I also successfully followed up with a donor that was late in meeting its financial pledge to the organization, with the result that the donor resumed its payment schedule.

In this position, I was responsible for presenting the latest economic research from the Mercatus Center's Financial Regulation and Monetary Policy programs to White House staff; to members of the US Congress and their staff; to relevant federal government agency personnel; and to other like-minded organizations in the nonprofit sector. This included producing email campaigns announcing the release of the latest economic research, arranging scholar briefings for the above-listed constituencies, and providing logistical support to the scholars during these events. I also was responsible for informing the scholars producing ongoing research of the latest political developments affecting their areas of scholarly expertise, and for contributing to the in-house development of effective strategies for promoting said research to the above constituencies.

In this position, I covered financial, economic and political developments from an Austrian School of Economics/libertarian perspective.

I served as the editor of Inside the CFPB, a biweekly newsletter covering the ins and outs of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The publication was formerly known as Inside Regulatory Strategies, a regulatory and legal compliance newsletter for the mortgage industry. My previous beat here involved producing Inside The GSEs, a biweekly newsletter that covers Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks. I was also one of the staff editors for two weekly newsletters, Inside Mortgage Finance and Inside MBS & ABS, and another biweekly newsletters, Inside Mortgage Trends. Additionally, I also served as the senior editor of the monthly newsletter, Small Business Tax News.Among my professional highlights:• Consistently provided insightful and provocative coverage and analysis of the Federal Reserve and its impact on investors, balancing the consensus opinion of Wall Street experts with the compelling arguments of a variety of independent and contrarian voices.• Established the single most authoritative and comprehensive news coverage and analysis of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, producing one of the fastest growing newsletters in the stable of publications.

Austrian School Publications and its flagship newsletter, The Austrian Investment Report, were dedicated to covering the global financial markets for individual investors of all shapes, sizes and risk/reward tolerances, providing news, analysis, data and commentary from the laissez-faire perspective of the Austrian School of Economics.My objective in setting up this enterprise was to foster a deep understanding of how the tremendous insights of the Austrian School of Economics can enable investors to successfully navigate the distortions caused by government intervention in the financial markets and create and preserve wealth, with the least amount of collateral damage as possible.

I served as the editor for the company's three newsletters and as Webmeister for its three related Web sites.Some of my professional accomplishments:• Established a consistent standard of editorial excellence in producing the company's internal and external websites and newsletters.• Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and substantial project management skills in successfully migrating the entire contents of the firm's primary website to a completely new platform.

I served in a public affairs/media relations capacity for this influential trade association in the property/casualty insurance industry; was the editor of the weekly FrontLine newsletter that was distributed to members; produced the organization's annual reports; assembled a variety of press kits and informational packages for quarterly meetings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and otherwise on an as-needed basis; maintained important relationships with key members of the trade and general press and responded to their inquiries on a timely basis.My professional achievements here include:• Produced and disseminated an informational product for the insurance industry that played a key role in diffusing a hostile legislative and regulatory climate in Florida, and aided in generating $500,000 to $1 million in new membership revenues.• Successfully authored and placed an influential editorial on behalf of the company president, helping persuade regulators in Michigan to ditch proposed rules that could have cost insurers millions of dollars in excessive compliance costs. • Demonstrated substantive and valuable leadership and project management skills in coordinating and overseeing the production of annual reports, which effectively introduced the organization to prospective members and provided necessary operational and other strategic information to existing members.

I covered regulatory and accounting policy developments as they affected both the insurance industry and the banking industry, being the senior editor for The Insurance Accountant and The Insurance Regulator newsletters, and as a contributing editor to The Bank Accountant newsletter.Some noteworthy accomplishments were:• Conceptualized and brought to market a biweekly newsletter aimed at regulatory policy development affecting the U.S. insurance industry.• Set an in-house record subscription renewal rate of 92% for two insurance industry newsletters aimed at senior-level executives and regulatory and legislative policymakers, directly generating subscriptions valued at approximately $500,000.
