Update Oct. 24, 2013: if you have read the paragraph below, you know what i have been committed to work on as a Village Trustee since my election 6 months ago. Fortunately, I have been able to contribute to most of the primary objectives I set for myself and for which i was elected. Last night at a Town/Village joint meeting, we approved resolutions to do joint comprehensive planning and to proceed with Fresh Water Exploration Phase 2. A different group is meeting with an objective to improve sewage treatment and other Village and Town infrastructure. Some good things are happening. On the other hand, if anyone suggests that public office is easy, set that person straight. This is hard work. I hope to be able to keep on learning how to do it well.On first being elected in May 2013, I filed the following statement:I have been elected to public office for the first time in my life. I believe that my long experience as an academic, both professor and administrator, and my work experience in planning and team building suit me well for the role of trustee. I am pleased to say that I received the largest number of votes out of a field of five candidates. Now it is time to actually serve the community in this position. Wish me luck and if you are citizens here, please continue to help me do well.In my first four months, I have been actively engaged in working on projects to provide the Village with fresh water from new and permanent sources (with NYC DEP), natural gas to replace #2 fuel oil as our primary heating fuel, storm water treatment, closer collaboration and eventual consolidation with the Town of New Paltz, and comprehensive planning.

Project and proposal development concerning a permanent biological research station in Amazonas State, Brazil, with Richard Cattabiani, Int'l Ed. Program Director, and collaborators from other SUNY institutions; program development for students traveling to study in Brazil, Panama, and (soon) Costa Rica.

Providing assistance to agencies and institutions in the creation and management of new educational programs, including the establishment of new colleges and universities; extensive experience in international higher education. Just returned from Madaba, Jordan, from the dedication of a new university there for which i have been lead evaluator for the past year and a half. I continue to help the Higher Education Commission of the State of New Hampshire in doing such program evaluations.I am also still working with the International Programs office of SUNY Ulster on a variety of inter-related programs, also involving other SUNY institutions. My primary efforts are in helping to establish a permanent biological research station in the Brazilian Amazon, northwest of Manaus.
