Working within the Border Force as an individual and team member my daily activities involve a wide variety of peoples, languages, situations and decisions that require a highly analytical mind and a very strong attention to detail.-Enforcing UK immigration and Customs law with the travelling public at Heathrow airport, this involves the following.- Interviewing people as to their purposes, intentions, activities, length of stay, etc within the UK to determine their legality, credibility and validity. This involves the collection of notes at the initial and further interviews.-Searching through baggage and belongings for evidence in support or contradiction to any information attained and for items that are of interest for both immigration and customs reasons.-Ensuring to work professionally with all passengers while on a daily basis receiving verbal abuse, anger, disbelief, lies, resistance to questioning, language barriers, cultural differences, emotional/extreme stories and attempts to dismiss me.-Working with translators and passengers to determine what a non-english speaking passenger is saying in a fair manor to prevent misinterpretation or the "putting of words in peoples mouthes".-Carrying out security checks on travel documents from a wide variety of nations each with unique features using touch and vision practices and computer assisted techniques.-Working and reacting to emergency situations such as medical emergencies on planes (where the ill/injured must still be checked).-Enforcing law by building legal cases to determine whether individuals/groups are breaking or in contradiction to immigration/customs rules with interviews, sponsor, employer, university checks and evidence collection in a fair and just way before making a decision.
