This role allowed me to improve my project management, communication and administration skills. Working specifically on large and small sporting events my typical activities include, training and managing a large volunteer workforce, liaising with clients, producing detailed event plans, managing budgets, securing bookings, liaising with marketing and PR and coordinating event days. BUCS Big Wednesday, the two-day culmination of University team sport, and Loughborough International Athletics are amongst the events I have coordinated. Whilst at Loughborough University I joined the volunteer academy, which has enabled me to volunteer at a number of events such as Loughborough International Athletics, Loughborough European Athletics and European Club Hockey Championships. Through previously demonstrating my ability to interact and communicate effectively with a large variety of individuals and organisations I was rewarded with the responsibility of coordinating up to 60 volunteers on these days. This role involved briefing volunteers on their roles and responsibilities during the event with regards to customer service, health and safety and following procedures. I also had the responsibility to respond to customer, athlete and officials enquiries and complaints that would arise. As well as volunteering at events I also helped to run and organise strength and fitness sessions for the University Swim squad along with conditioning and fitness workshops for visiting schools. Both of these experiences have allowed me to utilise the qualifications I have as well as increasing my experience with teaching and coaching and relating large groups and individuals.

My role was to support the athletes through a number of assessments such as postural control, cognitive function and anthropometric tests as well as coached sessions. The data I collected formed part of the selection process for the next stage of the programme.
