If you’re looking for an example of who Tom is, let me take you back to his high school summers. North Carolina summers are brutally hot and humid. Still, Tom spent a large bulk of those summers outside helping his grandfather manage a wonderful carwash (owned by his grandfather). Tom did everything – he fixed the wash bays, he loaded soap in the wash containers, he changed out the coins, and he even fixed the roof using roofing tar (I do not recommend you handle roofing tar in the summer. It’s the definition of searing heat). I was with Tom on some of these days. From what I could tell, Tom did all of this work without being paid and without his grandfather having to tell him to do it. Talk about service-oriented, Tom could teach a masterclass on the subject. So, what does this have to do with the awesome technology executive Tom has become? Everything. Tom’s work ethic, his commitment to client service, and his understanding of how to accomplish an objective can all be traced back to those hot summers at his grandfather’s business.
