Investment banker and entrepreneur Thom Weisel is the founder of Thomas Weisel Partners, Montgomery Securities, and is currently the Co-Chairman of Stifel Financial. He is also a dedicated philanthropist and avid athletics supporter.Thom Weisel first graduated from Stanford University with a distinction and honors in Economics and then earned an MBA from Harvard. Since then, Weisel has founded and influenced several institutions. He created Montgomery Securities in 1978 and grew it to $700 million, later selling the Montgomery Asset Management and Investment Bank branches of the company to $1.5 billion to what later became Bank of America. Thomas Weisel Partners, which earned $500 million in revenue its first year, was sold to Stifel for $450 million in 2010.In addition to his impressive business history, Thom Weisel also started the U.S. Cycling Foundation, for which he has served as Chairman since 2000; Weisel oversaw many organizational changes to the Foundation and has watched its membership triple over the past 15 years. The Foundation earned a U.S. Cycling endowment of $20 million as of 2015. He has been on the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Board since 1977, which included tenure as a Chairman, 1983-1994. In that time Weisel restructured the team’s administration and merged it with the U.S. Ski Association. Following this merger, the Ski Team has won more Olympic medals than the team of any other nation. Thom Weisel is also a notable art philanthropist. The Weisel Family Art Foundation, has donated over 200 works of Native American art to the DeYoung Museum of Fine Arts in addition to promising or gifting other works from well-known artists to NYMOMA and SFMOMA, where he has served on the board as Chairman of the Committee on Trustees since 2009.
