As an intern in a youth sports programs role at the YMCA, I was handed a range of responsibilities critical to the organization's mission of fostering youth development through sports. My primary tasks included assisting with program planning and implementation, where I would collaborate with senior staff to organize schedules, set up facilities, and ensure all necessary equipment is prepared. This role also involved direct interaction with young participants and their families, where you would provide guidance, support, and encouragement during activities and events. Additionally, I was involved in administrative duties such as maintaining participant records, handling registrations, and coordinating communication between staff, parents, and community members to ensure smooth operations and participant satisfaction. Furthermore, as part of the YMCA's commitment to holistic youth development, I was expected to uphold the values of inclusivity, respect, and sportsmanship in all interactions. This included promoting positive behavior among participants, resolving conflicts when they arise, and actively fostering an environment where every child feels safe and valued. My role as an intern didn’t only focus on the day-to-day logistics of running programs but also on contributing to the YMCA's broader goals of building strong, healthy communities through youth sports initiatives.

I was apart of the TIP team (talent acquisition, immigration and programs) where I got the opportunity to spend several weeks working for a supervisor in each area. With talent acquisition I shadowed several recruiters that taught me how to post jobs, job source, perform intake meetings, conduct phone screenings and perform interviews. My individual tasks included updating the company’s new hire tracker every week, posting company wide updates to their talent center of excellence website, and I helped with updating their job descriptions. With immigration I got the opportunity to shadow several meetings with the company’s legal team, and work on a two week long project that included transferring all of the company’s PAF’s from paper to digital. With programs I primarily worked with helping run the day-to-day tasks and projects for the entire student internship program. I helped plan leadership development sessions, create interactive activities and communications plans for National Intern Week, and I communicated with all of the supervisors for the 78 interns across the Americas on a daily basis.

I was available to assess the current state of each department within the business, while also learning about the impact that each department has on the overall success of the business.
