I have been a practicing patent attorney for over twenty-five years. More specifically, I have been engaged in patent prosecution and opinion matters concerning patents and other intellectual property. As a result, I work with engineers and other inventors on a daily basis to draft patent applications and prosecute them before the US Patent & Trademark Office into issued patents. I also work closely with in-house patent attorneys at our clients to manage patent portfolios, confer on protection strategies, and ensure they are maximizing the value of their inventions. On the opinion side, I counsel clients to minimize infringement risk, to design around existing patents by modifying the engineering of their products, and to determine the overall value of their patent and/or patent portfolio. I also work closely with attorneys, engineering managers, and independent inventors to determine if their concepts are patentable prior to expending the time and cost of filing for patent protection. As many of our clients are multi-national or global in scope, I also work closely with patent attorneys around the world to obtain foreign patent protection as well. As my below resume shows in more detail, after founding and managing Miller, Matthias & Hull LLP for fifteen years, our firm became the Chicago office of von Briesen & Roper. Headquartered in Milwaukee, with offices throughout Wisconsin, New York, and now Chicago, von Briesen has been providing high quality, client-driven legal services for over 100 years.
