Plum is a Facebook messenger app/bot (yep, that's a thing) that allows people to automatically save money, invest money and get insights into what they're spending their money on. As Plum's first full-time product designer I'm designing the full user experience of the product as well as helping out forming how we operate internally.

During my final time at This Place I kept doing hands-on design work as well as helping the Creative Director provide an overview and help guide direction of all of the projects in the studio. I was part of shaping how we worked and lead internal/client facing projects from a UI/UX stand point.

My first full-time role in UI/UX. I worked on client projects producing both websites and native apps. During this time I developed my core skillsets around understanding user needs, communicating design, how to run design projects, how to effectively produce design deliverables and one of my absolute favourites - prototyping. During this time I worked both solo and in teams with other UI and/or UX designers. We also had internal developers that I worked closely with.I joined This Place as their first employee and saw the company grow from myself and the founders to eventually two offices and a team of around 30-40. That journey thought me a lot about team building and how a company operates at different sizes.

Thomas joined us for an 8 week graphic design project, which required him to produce about 16 weeks worth of work. The project covered a from-scratch brand design, software interface design, and prospect facing website design. I was instantly impressed by the speed with which Thomas got his head round the concepts and principles of what were trying to achieve. He worked quickly and diligently making the endless minor changes we requested, which would have driven most designers to despair. The work he produced was of a consistently high standard, and he was a pleasure to have on-site. We already have several future projects in the pipeline that will require input from a graphic designer and I certainly intend to use Thomas again if he’s still available!Samuel de Lange, Project Manager

Thomas did the graphic design and our logo to our festival, The Picnic festival. He also was the head of the magazine we distributed in 100 000 copy’s. Thomas is really easy going and flexible. We had to make a lot of short notice-changes and most of the time it wasn’t any problems. When it was problems Thomas was really honest to us and told us what was possible and what wasn’t. Thomas Engebrand had his internship with us at Valentin&Byhr Change during the fall/winter of 2011. We gave Thomas a chance because his digital background and portfolio seemed interesting. Thomas proved himself to be a versatile artist with a nice personality and he quickly became one with the team. He was involved with a lot of clients, such as Fazer Konfektyr and Malmö Aviation, both as a talented retouch artist and as a driven creative designer. We appreciated Thomas so much that we decided to take him along on a trip to Hong Kong.
