Chief administrator for the department and acts in a proactive manner to maintain a safe and secure University campus and assure efficient transportation services. Provides oversight of and assures coordination with the Springfield Police Department substation, develops contingency plans for natural disasters, emergencies, and potentially disruptive or threatening circumstances, administers the University's emergency response plan, the master fire safety plan, the Springfield Police Department contract, parking administration programs, motor pool, and coordinates operation of the campus shuttle system, the radio communications center, and the 24/7 public safety operation. Prepares and publishes the annual Clery report and oversees the department’s acceptance and disposition of reports of crimes, complaints, and incidents of sexual violence, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and stalking. Monitors all aspects of daily operations, assesses the effectiveness of programs, policies and procedures, supervises professional and support staff and student personnel, administers the various departmental budgets, and maintains a cooperative relationship with the neighborhoods surrounding campus. Collaborates with various departments on and off campus. Administers, develops and delivers various safety programs including active shooter response, self-defense, and other crime prevention topics. Accomplishments – Assessed the structure of the department and identified improvements including the creation and of the rank of Corporal to provide for 24/7/365 supervision in the uniform division and a career track for employees. Creation of a Manager of Emergency Preparedness position to provide a person to focus on emergency management. Elevation of an Assistant Director to Associate Director to reflect the actual duties for the position. All personnel changes were completed without an increase in budget.

Board member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators for the Mid America Region representing the states of Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, Arkansas, Michigan, Illinois, and Oklahoma.

Chief executive officer for a department of ten sworn/armed officers and 5 civilian support personnel. Responsibilities include budget oversight, planning, investigations, personnel oversight, Clery officer, oversight of campus parking and fleet vehicles. Development of the department’s Uniform Crime Report (UCR) for the FBI. Past-President of the Missouri Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. 2005 and 2008 Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer – Special Olympics, Missouri, Northeast Region. Chairman of the Kirksville, Mo Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics. Testified before the State Senate and House of Representatives concerning matters related to Campus policing. Conducted investigations of criminal and civil violations. Coordinated moving the department headquarters into a new facility. Oversaw the installation of a new Outdoor Warning System and was part of a committee to purchase an emergency text messaging system for the university.

Assigned to all shifts on a six month, rotating basis. Direct supervision over a staff five patrol officers, twelve full time security guards, and one full time dispatcher. Responsibilities include training, evaluation, discipline, and assignment of duties. Also responsible for coordinating, scheduling and supervision of field support for large scale events, such as football, baseball, major concerts, homecoming parade and commencement, requiring from 2 - 200 law enforcement and security personnel. Provide direct supervision at events such as men’s basketball, major concerts, wrestling. Assist administration in development of departmental policies and procedures. Assist in figuring costs associated with special events. Conduct internal investigations for the department. Assist with the hiring process for patrol officers and full time guards. Conduct interview boards and background investigations. In charge of hiring part time security guards for the department. Member of the Johnson County Domestic Violence Investigation Team in which is responsible for coordinating response to domestic violence between law enforcement and county agencies. Coordinated security for visiting dignitaries such as the Vice-President of the United States and the United States Speaker of the House.
