As a Resident Engineer, I oversee IDOT road construction projects while resolving conflicts and operations problems with the contractor over the interpretation of the plans and specifications within the constraints of sound engineering practice and the limitations of plans and specifications. In addition to running my own crew some tasks I perform are; creating authorizations and prior approvals, resolving engineering problems not covered by plans and specifications, solving on-job problems raised by the public, and overcoming obstacles that could delay progress or impair the quality of work.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for overall coordination of my team, their activities, and day-to-day management of the project(s) and documentation progress.Assure construction projects are built per the plans, special provisions, specifications, and departmental policies.Produce pay estimates, authorizations, punch lists, closeouts, and project documentation.Mentor staff and educate them on any construction-related issues in a professional and effective manner.Facilitate processing of RFI's, shop drawings, and material inspection, among the general contractor and the department.

Lead inspector for the Resident Engineer. Handled the day-to-day activities in the field while answering questions encountered on the job site. Accountable for assisting in the development and implementation of road work projects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Monitored construction projects on-site and made daily decisions about construction activities.Assisted the resident engineer in all areas of supervision, from liaising with contractors and engineers to coordinating with surveyors and site owners.Coordinated and scheduled quality control inspections.Communicated with the contractor daily to update or address new issues.

Assisted the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in the inspection and layout of highway improvement projects. Operated within an environment to ensure that the contractor provided a quality improvement per the plans, specifications, and special provisions in a timely manner.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepared inspector's daily reports and quantity calculations of contract items and informed the Resident Engineer of work progress, construction problems encountered, and/or deviations made.Performed construction staking as a survey crew member and helped with plan reviews.Ensured compliance with department safety policies.
