Partner
CurrentBusiness Litigation Partner -- I help businesses – especially financial institutions – resolve complex disputes with their customers, counter-parties and regulators. I enjoy helping my clients navigate difficult, multi-faceted problems to successful resolutions that help them preserve the business-assets and reputations they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Some examples: • Helping a regional broker-dealer achieve a walk-away dismissal of court, then arbitration, claims seeking millions in market losses in a bottom-tranche CDO purchased by its institutional customer, a bank. • Defending a small broker-dealer and municipal underwriter against a competitor-induced regulatory enforcement action over municipal-bond-market pay-to-play regulations – at the time “the largest involving G-37 ever brought.” • Defending a broker-dealer and its president against NYAG, SEC, FINRA and multi-district civil class litigation over mutual-fund market-timing and late-trading claims. I also help financial firms with routine regulatory and compliance advice. I enjoy music copyright-infringement litigation and have defended clients against infringement claims involving the reggaeton hit “Gasolina,” several R&B and hip-hop hits including “Back that Ass Up,” and several cuts off the first two albums by Three Doors Down, among others.
