Tom Hanson is an award-winning journalist, and most recently a host and correspondent for Channel One News – the leading American Youth Media Organization reaching 6 million students across the country. Channel One has earned its reputation – including two Peabody’s – for sending correspondents all over the world to deliver magazine-style reports that educate America’s youth on global affairs. Since the start of his career, Hanson has worked in more than 20 countries across five continents, and has covered many major news events around the world, often reporting from the scene. Hanson was on the ground covering military tensions on the Korean Peninsula in 2017, and was in Iran during the nuclear deal negotiations. He has smuggled himself into Myanmar’s internment camps to document genocide, has embedded with independent rebel militias in the lawless regions of Mexico, and has tracked down elephant poachers in the Sub-Saharan wilderness. Most recently, Hanson got a rare opportunity to interview the Dalai Lama at his compound in Northern India. Closer to home, he has covered America’s Opioid Epidemic, the 2016 election, and the record-breaking hurricanes that battered the Gulf Coast in 2017. Before joining Channel One News, Hanson was an Associate Producer at CNN in Atlanta. There he worked on CNN’s New Day Weekend franchise. Prior to that, he was a news assistant in the CNN Washington D.C. Bureau during the 2012 election. Hanson graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in multi-media journalism. He is based in New York City.
