With Scott Logic, I am a full-stack development consultant, working mostly with clients in the financial services sector. My role has primarily been as a member of a team augmentation service, providing additional development and design resource to our clients.This approach means I am required to pick up new technologies quickly, giving me a broad knowledge of a great many technologies and allowing me to specialise in the few that are chosen for a given project.

Moving into a software developer position at ProspectSoft, whilst my original responsibilities remain largely the same, I now also work on core development projects. I am currently working on 'Prospect 365', a cloud-based CRM, CMS and eCommerce platform.

In this position, I was responsible for developing bespoke desktop and cloud-based business information systems for clients using technologies like .NET, Sybase Adaptive Server, JavaScript and HTML. Such systems often integrated to the likes of back-office accounting systems like Access Dimensions, Iris Exchequer and Pegasus Opera.As well as working back-end, I was also responsible for designing front-end interfaces, both in the form of websites and client applications.

I worked behind the bar, serving customers, collecting glasses, maintaining stock levels and keeping the service area clean. I dealt with customers on a regular basis and as such developed very good people-handling skills. I have been able to remain calm in situations where customers had become irate, and occasionally violent until the problem was resolved by either myself, management or security.In addition to standard bar work, I was also trained in making cocktails and the basics of bar flair.

My primary role was to design, develop and implement bespoke software solutions solutions, although, secondarily, I had client-facing responsibilities. Because our projects were relatively short-term (rarely longer than several months), it was often necessary to get rapid responses from the client to ensure development went smoothly and remained agile. In these instances, a consultant and project manager were sent to stay on-site for the initial prototyping phase of the project.With smaller projects, it was also the case that the team might leave the client with a live and working solution. This mode of operation necessitates a fluid and efficient workflow to ensure that projects meet the customer requirements in the short time available.
