I’m a senior people leader and internal communications professional, currently leading a team of six at Auckland Council. I have a passion for people and helping them feel good about coming to work. Sometimes that’s about making sure they have the right information at the right time, and other times it’s about finding those inspirational and moving stories that show people what is possible.Having strong relationships with my colleagues and senior management and listening to our audiences, is important part of my role that ensures the work I deliver is relevant and timely. A huge part of internal communications is about protecting the reputation of the organisation, something that is always top of mind for me. I have vast experience in internal communications, crisis communications, issues and risk management in large, diverse and complex organisations, as well as a long history of supporting the most senior leaders through change and challenges. The last few years have been extraordinary for everyone, including those of us working in internal communications. Our people are anxious and worried about their jobs and future, and our role is crucial in making sure they have the right information to do their roles, feel informed about the direction of the organisation and that their wellbeing is a priority. It’s a time when we’ve had to be incredibly responsive in high pressure, changeable and fast paced situations – and I’ve loved it! Team fit and culture is important, so a little bit about me… I’m a mum of two school-aged girls and two dogs, I probably drink too much coffee, and I love a good laugh and spending time with friends and whānau. At work, I prefer a collaborative and open environment where everyone’s voices are heard. I’m full of good ideas (or so I think) and love a good brainstorm. Continuous improvement, self-reflection and honesty are all integral parts of the way I operate.
