I am driven to make Reykjavik a modern, liberal and inclusive city, where everyone is welcome and feels at home. When I joined Vidreisn (the Reform Party) for the municipal elections in 2018, we focused on how we could make living and working in Reykjavik easier with better access to child care, increased e-service and better public transport. We also want it to be easier to start and run a business in Reykjavik. In my previous life, in business, I learned to believe in people and their ability to change the world with a positive attitude. To be successful, either in the private or public sector, it is important to have the courage yourself to change the world with leadership, to believe in people and good teamwork and always focus on diversity as a guiding light for a brighter future. As the President of the Executive Board at the City of Reykjavik, it is my responsibility to lead the political oversight of the administration in general and its financial management in particular. The Board prepares budgets and ensures that the financial statements of the city give a true and fair view of the city’s operation and financial position. I am a member of the executive board of the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities. In my free time I am a forest farmer in the north of Iceland, where my family owns land. I am also a member of the national Project board for the preparation of a national plan for forestry.Before my political life, my experience ranged from being the CEO of Gray Line Iceland, the VP for the Social Welfare at Reykjavik City, a University professor to being an Entrepreneur, TV Host, Investor and an Owner of a Pizza Hut Chain in Iceland & Finland. From this experience I have gained a broad knowledge on economic and social factors, both from the micro and macro perspective. I’ve worked in a very multicultural environment and demonstrated the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures. I have also lived, studied and worked in South America, USA and Europe. I have participated in various Associations in Business. As the chairman of Finnish Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, I had success in encouraging more business between the two countries and established a good working relationship with the embassy of both nations, ministry foreign affairs, PROMOTE Iceland and FINPRO. As the president of Association of Women Business Leaders (FKA) in Iceland, I emphasized on diversity and networking between business leaders.
