However, I also was given the task to plan our Black Diamond Ball, which is our biannual spring event where we take our women out of Oxford for an evening. Planning this event entails budgeting upwards of $18,000 and reaching out to a number of vendors. I also overlook the six women holding positions on my team and am part of the risk committee! This position has allowed me to develop new skills and strengthen those I already have. The main skills used in this position include communication, time management, organization, planning, and resourcefulness, which are all skills I can take with me into my life post college.I was also given the opportunity to attended Officer Academy in Chicago, Illinois this past February with six other members of our executive committee and one of our advisors. Officer Academy is a conference put on by Alpha Delta Pi that encourages officers to better understand their responsibilities and learn new strategies to bring back to their chapter. This conference provides skill development in a number of operational areas, leadership training, and a variety of workshops. I engaged in the Prevention Planning and Event Management track, which focused on planning safe events, evaluating and reducing risks, and encouraging healthy behaviors. Throughout the three-day conference, I participated in activities with all of the attendees and in smaller groups consisting of other women in my position from different chapters. It was very helpful and inspiring to hear about some of the other strategies used at other chapters that I could bring back to my own. This is one of the most influential experiences Alpha Delta Pi has given me and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to attend Officer Academy. Show less
