Working remotely out of the Antarctic gateway of Cape Town, I investigate Antarctic governance, geopolitics, climate change, science, conservation and tourism, as well as African conservation.

Annie Lennox described this song, which I conceptualised and co-wrote with Branko Brkić, as “a profoundly beautiful, thought-provoking track”. Former BBC News Editor James Harding noted: “A totally different kind of storytelling. I have to confess, when I watched it, I was in tears.” The Columbia Journalism Review called this adaptation “a stirring climate anthem”, while The Nation praised it as “a stunning cover … that tops a collection for a world on fire”.

As a member of the team who earned two World Gourmand book awards, I have extensive experience in editing and proofreading close to 30 titles. These books have ranged from major political investigations to wildlife collectors' items for imprints such as Human & Rousseau and Bloomsbury.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Area

Assisting with the production of the bespoke, 20-page Lifestyle publication reaching four million readers per week. Duties included supporting the editor to oversee production of long-form and short-form lifestyle, sport, motoring and African nature-conservation content, and managing a pool of freelance photojournalists. I also formed part of a day/night team of senior subeditors processing and fact-checking sensitive articles for fast turnaround.

Johannesburg/Cape Town

My polar writing has appeared, among others, in the Sunday Times, the American Polar Society's Polar Times and the Lonely Planet Guide to Antarctica. I also worked as reporter, features and obituary writer, interviewing newsmakers such as Desmond Tutu, John Cleese and Springbok rugby captain Siya Kolisi.

Raising USD$130k in prizes from Canon and Wilderness Safaris, I led the conceptualisation, launch and management of the paper's nature/travel photography awards, with a strong focus on rare nature.

East Antarctica

During this time, I became South Africa's first female reporter to spend a resupply season with the South African National Antarctic Programme in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. I have also reported from Marion Island in the sub-Antarctic.

South Africa

Director and on-camera field presenter for 50/50, South Africa’s longest-running environmental television show. This work included swimming with dolphins off the Wild Coast in a sardine-run baitball, and chasing abalone poachers (not simultaneously). I also directed investigative wildlife content for other SABC programming.

Johannesburg Zoo

Based next to the Endangered Wildlife Trust in Johannesburg, my weekly environmental radio show largely focused on Antarctic and African conservation subjects. It was heard on the SABC's Channel Africa Radio across Africa, the UK and Hawaii.
