Great communicators tell stories. Great stories make us feel. They make use care. They make us act. Our world has the potential to be an amazing home to everyone, but that isn’t the case right now. There is much work to be done. We need to feel, care and act. This is central to all communications and brand work. Communication is my toolkit; my passion and dedication is to that bold goal. My career has been dedicated to supporting poverty alleviation for organizations that aim to reach the world’s most vulnerable children and families. Working in the development and humanitarian sector, I have supported and built expertise in various thematic areas including child rights, maternal, newborn and child health, child labour and trafficking, climate change, global food security and aid effectiveness in fragile states.As a highly skilled strategic communications and brand professional with senior leadership experience, I have a proven track record of excellence in the management, strategy, and execution of all aspects of communications. I can tell the stories that motivate Canadians, donors, business and private sector actors and government. I have more than 15 years of experience in communications for the not-for-profit sector and have worked collaboratively with policy, advocacy, government relations, fundraising and marketing teams. I have successfully managed teams of communications, marketing, creative and brand professionals and believe in leveraging each team members’ strengths and interests to achieve our shared goals. In addition to these skills and experiences, I love doing media and speech training, crisis communications and executive positioning strategies. Landing media coverage in major Canadian outlets gives me a huge rush, especially when those stories move agendas, hearts, and minds. Taking journalists abroad to meet children and families who tell their own stories is a career highlight. In my most recent role, I also had the opportunity to lead the influence pillar of a major national campaign to address child well-being in Canada. How do we reach out to Canadians and tell them that Canada isn’t the best place in the world to grow up? These challenges drive me to continue to find new, creative ways to effect change through powerful storytelling. There’s much work to be done.
