As the owner of a successful design-build construction firm, duties include: developing client's vision, project bidding, contract writing, design, producing CAD architectural construction plans, collaborating with engineering professionals, working with municipalities to meet zoning, plan review, and permit requirements, scheduling, facilitating client's selections, procurement, contracting/managing in-house and subcontracted labor, project management, supervision, to final walk through. International building and land development experience in the Dominican Republic (one year), and Honduras C.A. (two years) (see below).

Purchased spec lot in Historic Downtown Herndon, VA. Designed, produced CAD architectural drawings, and crafted a two-story with basement 6000 SF single-family detached Craftsman style residence on a 1/3 acre lot with 6 bedrooms/5.5 baths and sold for $1.27M. Obtained design approval from the Town of Herndon's Heritage Preservation Review Board.

As the sole designer, architect, and general contractor, developed 15 acres into a 100-person capacity boarding facility to include dorm rooms with baths, kitchen, dining hall, chapel, and office space. Infrastructure installations to include secondary electric, potable water well, 10,000 gal. reinforced concrete elevated potable water storage tank, and a reinforced concrete septic tank and drainage field. Duties included: collaboration with local Dominican municipal authorities, engineers, contractors, laborers, and suppliers. Working within a budgetary constraint of $250K and a time constraint of one year, delivered the fully functional facility in January, 2005. Client: APUFRAM International, non-profit. The all reinforced concrete installations withstood Haiti's 2010 magnitude 7.0 earthquake (120 miles from epicenter) with little to no damage.

As Head of Construction for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia, built a single-family attached two-story townhouse in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia with volunteer and subcontracted labor. Working with Habitat's board of directors, duties included: client interface, scheduling, procurement, training and management of unskilled volunteer labor, management of subcontractors, project management and supervision, and project delivery.I took this job as I was relocating Albers Construction Company from Michigan to Northern Virginia.

As Chief Carpenter, responsible for training and supervising a crew of five construction workers to build energy efficient residences (Earthships) in Western Colorado. Earthship homes are built utilizing natural and recycled materials with energy and environmental conservation as a primary focus. There are six basic design principles that define an Earthship: building with repurposed materials; thermal/solar heating and cooling; solar and wind electricity; water harvesting; contained sewage treatment; and food production.
