Creative Artist And Designer
Art and Creativity is in my blood. My work is often part intuitive, part technical (throwing random colours on a canvas and hoping for the best is defiantly not my style.) I am probably best known for my highly detailed fine line illustrations with a botanical feel. Feathers float in a gossamer layer slightly above the page, giving the image a spiritual feel and meld the world of old with a fresh coat of inspiration. Screenwriter
From the moment I documented the Annapurna Base Camp trek, I fell in love with the moving pictures. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then thousands of them shown in such rapid seamless succession is priceless. Movies can take on a life of their own. They can make you laugh, cry or just shake your head. Being a writer, it seemed that writing screen plays was as obvious step into the movie industry, but like so much that is obvious, it took a while for the message to sink in. The documentary taught me many things about timing and story. Because there is a whole crew behind the production it is important to be a team player. I have begun by writing screen adaptations of my own novels and will post the results when ready. This is a new career path for me and one that has a high risk of not bringing any rewards, but in this case, the doing can be rewarding in itself.I would love to connect with other creative people out there. My first short story was when I was quite young. I’d woken after a dream set in an arid undulating landscape. Tearing pages from the school book and with a blunt pencil I tried to recapture the way the light cast shadows over the hills of my dream. I had only words, but needed to capture the movement of the cloth fragment that had been skewered by a barb on the wire fence. What struck me most about the dream were the vividness and the detail. I had only words, but needed to capture the movement of the cloth fragment that had been skewered by a barb on the wire fence. What struck me most about the dream were the vividness and the detail. Writing had found its way into my blood. As a child, I was intensely curious about the physical world around me and how it worked. It wasn’t safe to leave a toy around when I had a screwdriver in my hand. As I grew, it was people and the world that fascinated me. I believe all good stories have great characters at their cores. Writing supernatural thrillers and humour is my way of taking a screwdriver to people and the world.Being part of a large family, dropped somewhere towards the middle of the field meant developing a high level of resourcefulness. For a time we lived in a rambling house surrounded by an undeveloped field. At the bottom of the yard was narrow track that cut a path of adventure. A foot bridge across a small creek lead to a large psychiatric hospital. This was my playground.Because I write in many styles, I use the pen name ‘Touch la Dark’ for supernatural thrillers and works with darker themes. Other works including humour are written under my own name.Humour was a later discovery, that is to say people have always taken to my dry wit, but it wasn’t until a work colleague suggested that I should put in book form what comes naturally, the result was To Hellia and Back.I have included samples of both.Dead End is an infectious thriller available on Kindle: Search for B071DRHF2DTo Hellia and Back is a SciFi romp and is currently waiting for a publisher.
