I currently lead a team within the applied radiation technology department carrying out radiation transport and activation calculations for fusion devices. These devices including the Joint European Torus (JET), ITER and the European demonstration fusion power reactor (DEMO).My role includes:- Leading project teams to bid for and deliver neutronics support to CCFE and external clients.- Liaising with engineers and system designers to specify nuclear requirements, and optimisecomponents and shielding- Reviewing deliverables to ensure they are of high quality and delivered on time and cost- Line management, recruitment and pastoral care of team members and MSc summer students- Extensive experience using radiation transport software MCNP to provide neutron and photontransport calculations, and MCR2S for shutdown dose rate analysis- Extensive experience using CCFE's inventory code FISPACT-II for material activation- Development of models suitable for radiation transport and activation calculations from CAD- Extensive experience using Fortran and python to develop MCR2S and other neutronics tools- Experimental work irradiating high purity foils at the ASP 14 MeV neutron source- Publishing work in fusion relevant journals and presenting at international meetings andconferences

Working for a consultancy gave me a wide overview ofthe nuclear industry in the UK as it allowed me to work in various areas, including current civilnuclear power, decommisioning, weapons and nuclear new build. My main responsibilities were:- Provided technical consultancy support to clients within the UK nuclear industry, includingBritish Energy (now EDF energy), Magnox, AWE, Rolls Royce and the Office for NuclearRegulation.- Provided physics, engineering and safety support on a wide range of projects including: - Lead the design for the ionising radiation shielding for a hydrodynamics experimentalfacility - Shielding analysis for current civil nuclear establishments - Fire dispersion assessments of nuclear material at a manufacturing facility - Seismic and structural analysis using finite element codes such as Abaqus and LS-Dyna - Fuel route safety case authoring for Heysham 1 and Hartlepool nuclear reactors - Common cause failure analysis for civil nuclear power plants in conjuction with the ONRand EDF - Electrical overlay system design for decommission of Bradwell nuclear power plant- Project management of small projects- Line management of two junior members of staff- Recruitment responsibilities including reviewing CVs and, performing interviews and graduateassessment centres
