I have worked in the arts for 25 years, primarily as a professional actor in some of the nation’s leading theaters and on television, as well as in technical direction and educational roles. To address current climate and environmental challenges, I have decided to shift my career focus to sustainability, conservation, and restoration. I recently completed a Master’s degree in Natural Resources from Virginia Tech, providing me theoretical grounding in natural resource policy and socio-ecological systems and technical competence in natural resources management analysis, with a primary emphasis on water resources, forests, and wildland fire in the Western United States.My professional background in the performing arts has trained me in public speaking to large audiences and direct interaction with the public in formal and informal settings. Professional performance and technical direction involve a great deal of collaboration, interpretation and iterative editing and analysis of written text, as well as conflict mediation and resolution in interpersonal and group settings. I am recognized as a leader in these intensive processes. Furthermore, as a technical director, supervising a group of 10 theater technicians, I was responsible for conceiving, preparing, and overseeing the repeated efficient operation of high-visibility events for hundreds of audience members. I am also experienced using computer technologies to compose, record, and edit audio and video content.My skills and experience in high-pressure, public-facing roles, and formal training in natural resource policy, analysis, and management give me a grounding to continue to explore sustainable solutions in the arts or move over into the world of climate, conservation, and restoration.
