Currently, as a Research and Development Technician at M.A. Ford Mfg. I am responsible for identifying customer problems. Making recommendations for tools and tooling attachments, duplicating processes here, and resolving any problems. Making a detailed analysis of processes and methods currently in effect. Identifying standard techniques and methods to make recommendation for new or revised tooling. Because my back round as a journeyman machinist and because I have working for a carbide cutting tool manufactory, I have 41 years of experience in the use of carbide cutting tools. As the Research and Development Technician at M.A. Ford I am comfortable with making recommendations for the machining of a wide range of work materials that range from high-temp Aerospace alloys such as Inconel 718 to more common low carbon steels, such as 1018, 4140 and 304 Stainless. I have also been involved with the drilling and machining of the latest grade of (CFRP) Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. I have no problem sharing the experience and knowledge I have gained and pride myself in the knowledge that many of my apprentices have gone on to work here at M. A. Ford in numerous manufacturing cells. I have been involved with studies related to methods of operation on a wide range of jobs at customer’s facilities. Two that include work for our military were the drilling of armor plate used on the Humvees in Afghanistan and the machining of a prototype trunnion mount on the 119 Howitzer. I am well versed in N/C programming as well as the older manual machines. I am accustom to adjusting and setting speeds and Leeds of machinery and comfortable in the operation of N/C machines to cut, drill, bore, grind, hone, and lap. Specialties: Mentoring the young. The metal cutting trade has been my whole life. I would like to pass on what I have learned over the past 41 years to the next generation of machinists. I have a deep respect for my shop teacher and my training journeymen machinist.
