Technical Implementation manger responsible for the install, test and commissioning of 180 mobile sites in Western Australia for the Optus/Vodafone JV. Main duties were equipment ordering, contractor management, financial management, install schedules and progress, quality, OH&S, etc.

The Siemens network in Monaco was very small; therefore it was not financially prudent for network operator to purchase a performance management tool to enable analysis of network and optimisation. I was recruited to write a series of UNIX and Cli scripts to enable raw performance statistics to be uploaded automatically from network elements and processed to enable key statistics to be generated e.g. call success, dropped calls, etc.

GSM BSS and OMC engineer utilised on o2 Nokia Swap Project (Swapping 2500 Motorola sites to Nokia). The work was very intense as data was received from the planners and had to be quickly prepared and converted into NPSX files using Nokia tools. The NPSX files were then used to create BTSs on BSCs, these BTS sites were then integrated onto network during each stage of the swap project. The following briefly details main tasks associated with assignment:• Integration of new network elements (Ultrasite, Metrosite, Talk, 2nd Gen, and TCSM) and re-configuration of existing network elements from NetAct.• Support of BSS field engineers during fault finding and integration• Creation of UNIX and MML scripts to perform automatic checks and tests at BSC and BTS level• Creation of Oracle SQL scripts to create reports• Configuration of GPRS, TCSM, etc.• Liaising with RF and transmission planners.• Monitoring newly integrated NEs for alarms, performance and stability issues.

Following three weeks 3G training in Germany, was assigned to H3G project in UK. Main activities as follows:• Integration of new network elements Platform 1 and 2 NodeBs onto Radio Commander.• Modifying, Deploying and activating new software to NodeBs from Radio Commander.• Support of RAN field engineers during fault finding and integration• Creation of UNIX and Cli scripts to perform automatic checks and tests at RNC and NodeB level• 1st line technical support to customer on RNC, NodeB and Radio Commander.• Knowledge transfer to customer operators on Radio Commander activities and principles.• Liaising with developers, TAC2, senior engineers and management on problems and possible improvements that could be made to product and services.

BSS configuration engineer for Wind project, based in Naples providing support for the customer during the rollout of Nokia DCS1800 network (swap-out of Alcatel and Siemens sites). Principal duties as follows:• Integration of new network elements (Ultrasite, Metrosite) and re-configuration of existing network elements from NMS-2000• Support of BSS field engineers during fault finding and integration• Systematic analysis of network performance for anomalies and more thorough analysis for specific problems• Creation of UNIX and MML scripts to perform automatic checks and tests at BSC and BTS level• Creation of Oracle SQL scripts to create reports• Configuration of GPRS, TCSM, etc.• 1st line technical support to customer on BSS and NMS-2000.• Liasing with RF and transmission planners.• Training of local staff on NMS-2000 activities and principles.

Based in Namen regional Nokia OMC, principal duties as follows:• Integration of new Nokia network elements and re-configuration of existing network elements from NMS-2000 • Monitoring of network alarms and taking corrective action• Support of BSS field engineers during fault finding and integration• Systematic analysis of network performance for anomalies and more thorough analysis for specific problems• Exploring the functionality and features of the equipment and the network management applications, in order to continuously improve network supervision• Implement and create procedures, specifications and trouble-shooting routines to have high quality work routines, to reduce mean resolution times and to increase overall network availability• Creation of UNIX and MML scripts to perform automatic checks and tests at BSC and BTS level• Creation of Oracle SQL scripts to create reports

Joined the Software Verification and Validation group responsible for the testing of new OMC features and infrastructure. My responsibilities included reviewing feature requirements at an early stage in the product lifecycle from a system level point of view. Developing test strategies/plans for overall test effort for given software release. Developing test plans & test cases for specific features in a given release. Specifying hardware/platform requirements needed to execute system level test cases and execution of test cases. Collaborating with internal and external customers to ensure that we remain customer focused when developing test strategies/plans. Working closely with development teams in resolving any problems found during testing.

Held the position as network integration engineer, responsible for the integration of BTSs and BSCs into the network. Main duties included creating BTSs on BSCs using MML command files, adding adjacencies, creating views, entering data into MSC, integrating BSCs and entering relevant data into MSC, liasing with field staff during integration process, providing BSS support to customer operators and reporting to senior management of Nokia and customer.The microwave network was monitored using an NMS-10, I created all the data on the NMS-10 and 2000 to allow the correct monitoring of the microwave links.I produced numerous UNIX scripts, which were used to automate many procedures and ensure consistent application of data.

Engaged in the review of established fault/escalation procedures and the introduction of a multi vendor network monitoring system (TNM). Liasing with supervisors of vendor specific sections, to review alarm rules and the training of local OMC operators.

I held the sole position of OMC administrator, I was responsible for all functions of the OMC, and my main duties included the following:• The analysis of statistics and alarms to gauge performance of network and to determine necessary action.• Writing UNIX and Informix SQL scripts to access Informix RDBMS to create statistical reports. • Integrating new BTS and BSC sites onto network and OMC including commissioning of additional X25 links.• Liasing with optimisation to implement database changes and monitor affect.• UNIX administrator duties include performing backups of UNIX filesystems and RDBMS, ensuring UNIX filesystems and RDBMS do not become full, check correct operation of hardware and taking necessary action to correct, add/delete users to system, control passwords, ensure OMC security, maintain hard copy of all important system files, restoring damaged filesystems from tape backups, maintaining log book of all system activity and act as tape librarian to ensure safe custody of all tapes, etc.• Implementing software upgrades on OMC and BSS and gauging whether performance or reliability has been affected.• Reporting directly to senior management of customer and Motorola.• Training customer operators.

Orange launched their DCS1800 Network on the 28 April 1994, I joined them in the previous December as an OMC engineer, responsible for the formation of a fault desk and fault procedures. Situated in the South East Region OMC, my principal duties were as follows:• Liasing with field engineers to provide first line and technical support during fault investigations on BTS and BSC installations• Monitoring and analysing all alarms generated from the network and taking corrective action to rectify• Assisting in commissioning and integration of Nokia BTS sites• Assisting switch engineers during system failures• Entering details of all network failures onto a PC based logging system to allow further analysis of fault trends.

Joined the small team of commissioning engineers prior to the start of commissioning, studying the feasibility of procedures and amending as necessary. The system utilised fibre optics as the transmission medium made up of two 565M/bits and approx. sixty 140M/bits links. At the heart of the system were a series of Craycom E6200 DACCs (similar to the ACE or PDMX) which provided cross connects at 64K/bits. At each of the 200 equipment rooms was located a Craycom E3200 advanced primary mux, this provided the users data and voice interfaces. The whole system was controlled and monitored by a PC based network management system. This entire network was commissioned to the highest standards working to a strict timetable and under the constant scrutiny of quality control staff. I was primarily located in the British and French control rooms providing first line and technical support to the tunnel and surface commissioning teams. After commissioning the entire network was subjected to a rigorous system acceptance test, simulating major fault conditions and testing the redundancy of the system.

I joined Mercury as an assistant commissioning engineer working with a small team of engineers. After gaining relevant experience was promoted to commissioning engineer to lead a similar team. Specialised in installing and commissioning digital microwave radio, and was seconded to Mercury Scottish region to help implement the East coast link. In addition also commissioned fibre optic transceivers, network multiplexers, primary digital muxes providing users data and voice interfaces.Services provided:140, 34, 8 and 2M/bits optical systems, 140, 34 and 8M/bits network muxes, primary muxes, telex muxes, SCADA master and out stations, RTUs, intelligent SPMGE equipment, DASS no2, 64K/bits and 2M/bits sub multiplexers.Test equipment:Phoenix BERT, TTC Fireberd, 3M BERT, Trend 274, optical power meter, RF counters and power meter, Marconi line monitor.Courses attended:Digital microwave radio, digital PCM transmission, data communications, Timeplex, GDC mega and mini mux, GEC primary digital rnux, telex, echo canceller and hybrid, radio seminar, SCADA and telemetry, packet switching, Kepner Triego methods and SPMGE.

I served a four year indentured apprenticeship and during this time attended college on a full and part time basis, achieving Tec levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 in electronics and communications. On completion of the apprenticeship I became a signal and communications engineer and was subsequently promoted twice. My main duties involved maintaining and fault finding on complex computerised and electronic signalling systems and huge private telephone network. Other responsibilities were CCTV, public address, train radio, train identification and supervising contractors.Courses attended:Tech 4, 3 and 2 electrical and mechanical, Tech 2 signalling, clamp lock points, train radio and positive train identification.
