The work was very intense as data was received from the planners and had to be quickly prepared and converted into NPSX files using Nokia tools. Commissioning Engineer - Channel Tunnel (Uk, France)
Joined the small team of commissioning engineers prior to the start of commissioning, studying the feasibility of procedures and amending as necessary. The system utilised fibre optics as the transmission medium made up of two 565M/bits and approx. sixty 140M/bits links. At the heart of the system were a series of Craycom E6200 DACCs (similar to the ACE or PDMX) which provided cross connects at 64K/bits. At each of the 200 equipment rooms was located a Craycom E3200 advanced primary mux, this provided the users data and voice interfaces. The whole system was controlled and monitored by a PC based network management system. This entire network was commissioned to the highest standards working to a strict timetable and under the constant scrutiny of quality control staff. I was primarily located in the British and French control rooms providing first line and technical support to the tunnel and surface commissioning teams. After commissioning the entire network was subjected to a rigorous system acceptance test, simulating major fault conditions and testing the redundancy of the system.
