  • Perpetua, Inc.
    Founder & Ceo
    Perpetua, Inc. Oct 2016 - Jun 2023
    Spokane, Wa
While at Aavid Thermalloy, customers from diverse markets all approached the company seeking a nonexistent tech solution to the same thermal management problem: the premature failure of rotary fans in hot harsh environments. Perpetua was founded to create a solution to this problem by evolving FlexFan designs toward extreme life in harsh conditions with a simple manufacturable design. Developed and shipped FlexFans for commercial greenhouse LED grow lights on a total capital raise of only $1.4million. Awarded 1 patent with 4 pending patents for improvements in FlexFans.
  • Aavid Thermalloy
Vp & Director Of Global R&D
    Aavid Thermalloy May 2013 - Sep 2016
    Laconia, Nh
Joined Aavid as part of their Influent Corp. acquisition to continue development of Influent technologies, provide tech transfer and training to Aavid’s inside engineering resources, while also providing support to other next-gen technology development projects.
  • Influent Corp.
    Founder, President & Cto
    Influent Corp. Jul 2005 - May 2013
    Richmond, Va
Founded Influent and created a new line of low-profile meso-scale fluid-movers including air compressors, pumps, pulse jets (aka synthetic jets) and FlexFans. Created multiple new fluid-mover architectures that eliminated rotary motors and enabled very low-profile fluid mover products with extreme life and reliability.Intel was looking for low-profile spot-cooling solutions for laptops and asked Influent to develop a low-profile piezo pulse jet. The proto was delivered and met Intel’s specifications.Cree needed a thermal management solution to allow their A21-sized LED lamp to reach 100W incandescent-equivalent lumens and asked Influent to develop a small pulse jet air cooler. Influent developed the A21 lamp with the embedded pulse jet thermal solution which met Cree’s specifications. Lilliputian was developing a small fuel cell (size of a pack of cigarettes) to compete with lithium-ion batteries and asked Influent to develop the low-profile internal air compressor. The solution was delivered and met Lilliputian’s specifications.Nuventix needed a new synthetic jet architecture that would fit in a laptop and not exceed a height of 4mm. Influent developed the synthetic jet which met specifications.Aavid Thermally wanted to provide a forced-air cooling technology for remote radio units mounted on telecom towers that could provide reliability in the harsh outdoor environmental conditions. Influent developed and delivered a high-performance pulse jet that met all requirements. Influent was then acquired by Aavid Thermalloy who was looking for new competitive patent-protected thermal management technologies to distinguish the Aavid brand within their thermal management peer group.Awarded 6 patents for Influent’s new family of fluid mover technologies.
  • Macrosonix Corp
    Founder, President & Ceo
    Macrosonix Corp 1990 - 2001
    Richmond, Va
Created the science of Resonant Macrosonic Synthesis at Los Alamos National Labs (LANL). RMS enables extremely high-pressure acoustic waves inside resonant cavities whose shape determines the phase and amplitude of the acoustic harmonics to form a waveshape needed for specific applications. Founded MacroSonix to develop RMS derivative technologies including acoustic compressors for refrigeration, air/gas compression, coolers for electronics cooling and acoustic mixers for accelerating chemical reactions and pharmaceutical processing.Whirlpool Corporation - Developed oil-free acoustic compressors for home refrigerators to expand the CFC replacement options. Hewlett Packard - Delivered an acoustic compressor refrigeration system to provide sub-ambient server cooling.Air Compressor Industry - Developed acoustic air compressors to provide clean oil-free compressed air.Pharmaceutical Industry - Developed demo RMS powder mixers and process units for 2-phase mixing. Awarded 14 foundational patents on RMS and derivative technologies. Negotiations included $20 million of equity financings; a funded Whirlpool strategic alliance, a 4-way cooperative research program between MacroSonix, General Electric, NASA and Purdue University and cooperative research programs with Los Alamos National Labs and the VCU School of Engineering.RMS media coverage included: Wired, Scientific American, Mechanical Engineering, Physics Today, Inside R&D, Business Week, Science News Magazine, Discover Magazine, Fluid Power Magazine, Physics News, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and CNN News. The American Institute of Physics cited RMS as one of the “Top Physics Stories of 1997” along with the 100th anniversary of the electron’s discovery and the 50th anniversary of the transistor’s invention.CNN News’ headline was “Invention may do for sound what laser did for light.”The first public announcement of RMS was awarded the 1998 Silver Anvil Award of Excellence.
