• Assessment of design documentation for compliance and advice on code compliance and alternative solutions to satisfy the requirements of the Building Regulations, BCA and relevant Australian Standards.• Assisting in the regulatory processes, customer service and professional advice under the provision of the relevant legislation. • Attend consultant meetings with Clients Architects and Engineers and provide advice.• Encourage staff interaction between disciplines and promote dCC ‘culture’ - manage staff workloads & resources. • Be a mentor /trainer /role model for technical support staff - ensure quality systems/polices are in place and implemented.• Undertake assessment of permit applications for compliance with the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards. • Provide timely regulatory advice to clients including owners, developers, architects and engineers on the requirements of the relevant state based building legislation.• Liaise with the relevant Fire and Government departments and authorities with respect to building regulatory provisions.• Carry out compliance audits of existing buildings to assess conformity with the BCA and associated legislation.

Proactivly manage the Northern Beaches Council Fire Safety Program focusing on performance based upgrade solutions of existing buildings. Provide high level technical advice to the Council's Certification Unit Mentor and support Council's junior Building Certifiers

• To provide management and leadership for the health and building team consistent with the Workplace Environment Statement, legislative requirements, planning policies and Council’s Code of Conduct. • In conjunction with the Director Community and Development Services set direction in accordance with Council’s management plan and communicate those directions to the health and building team to ensure programs meet corporate organisational needs.• To manage the health and building section to ensure excellent customer service is provided thorough accurate, pragmatic and timely advice and to minimise application processing times whilst ensuring quality outcomes consistent with legislative requirements and Council’s planning policies.• Conduct public meetings, represent Council at meetings and meet with members of the public to effectively guide development within the region and achieve good quality outcomes. • Provide management and leadership to ensure Mid-Western Regional Council meets its statutory obligations under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the National Construction Code series, Local Government Act 1993, Food Act 2003, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and the relevant regulations. • To represent Mid-Western Regional Council in the Land and Environment Court or other legal arena when required including the preparation of evidence and supporting documentation. • Responsibility for the timely and effective issue of correspondence, notices, orders, penalty infringement notices and improvement notices (Food Act 2003). • Identify hazards, assess, prioritise and control risks to the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, visitors and contractors and to the environment arising from business operations.• Ensure a system of work that is safe and without risk to health is developed, documented and followed by employees and contractors through appropriate training, supervision and monitoring.
