From Jazz degree to working in product - it isn’t a natural progression, but then again since when is life linear? A Kiwi now living in the UK, I started my own business straight out of university before moving onto New Zealand's leading digital services company. Within 2 years I moved from answering phones to a product owner in a scrum style squad leading national plan migrations. After taking some time to travel the world, I'm now based in the UK working as a product manager for Conference Badges.

Throughout this role I would play my part in owning the full end to end process for customer product migrations at scale. This would go from data analysis, requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement, comms crafting and deployment to customer support and feedback. This role demanded an ability to think fast, adapt quickly and use data to support a business case rather than use assumptions. Throughout this role I also taught myself to write and refine code that would ultimately lead to time efficiencies by enabling other team members to move faster with accurate information. Throughout this role I developed important analytical skills through the use of SQL and Excel which then married to business knowledge allowed me to interact with technical teams and translate complex requirements into simple user stories throughout our agile ceremonies, this set me up well to take on the Product Owner role after just 7 months in the Squad.
