Joined M&S Property to help drive M&S Simply Food growth in the UK. Key responsibilities: 1) All site assessments and sales forecasts within the M25 and all convenience sites across the UK. 2) Creating a comprehensive Simply Foods strategy inside the M25 and a convenience store strategy across the UK. Running the bi-yearly London Property Strategy Review with Retail to ensure a collaborative approach to Simply Food growth. 3) Improving existing ways of working, operating models and systems used within Property (including the launch of a new GIS and sales modelling solution). 4) Launch of the first M&S Property Graduate Scheme. Planning the 18 month scheme, visiting Universities and assessing potential candidates (online tests, interviews and through to assessment centers).

Given the opportunity to lead and manage the Store Research team in a ‘safe hands’ role. It was a challenging but very rewarding experience. Key achievements: 1. People management. Supporting the development needs of individuals (through regular 1-2-1s and EOY reviews). Maintaining motivation & creating a team spirit during unprecedented times of business instability. 2. Ensuring the team’s priorities are in line with the latest business requirements in an ever changing environment (e.g. bringing in additional resources to help with the review work).3. Managing the complex Repurpose review project. Supporting and directing the team to undertake a highly collaborative and insightful piece of review work. Creating recommendations and ensuring these are presented to relevant senior management.

Joined the Store Research function within Property Research after four years in the new space function. Key achievements: 1. Delivered the Express Refresh Programme review (198 stores) and took both convenience MD’s through the paper. Positively received in terms of content and presentation. 2. Applied learnings from this to create the Express Uplift Potential scorecard which formed the strategy behind selecting stores for future property investment. Highly collaborative in both execution and delivery. Spent three days with the convenience MD to influence store selection. 3. Played a lead role in transforming the process behind Property investment. Designed & delivered the new ‘Brief’ document. This meant that more insightful, customer focused recommendations could be made up front, significantly improving efficiencies. 4. Forecasting sales uplifts for property investments (multi format, nationwide). Played a leading role in the new ‘Brief Approval’ process. 5. Supporting the graduates sign off process. Holding mock interviews and giving feedback.

Assessing the potential of all new Tesco Express sites in a geographically diverse patch (Scotland, SW London, Surrey, Bucks, Berks, Hampshire). Key achievements:1. Supporting Property pipeline by delivering sales forecasts and supporting papers for new store opportunities in my region (over 150 completed). Present sites to senior stakeholders (MD level) at the Express Acquisition Governance meeting. Influencing sensible property investment. 2. Expert knowledge of the performance of new openings in both my region and also nationwide. Using this knowledge and overall trends to help review strategy (e.g. Scottish strategy review).3. Delivered key insight projects outside of core role. Competitor analysis project on Sainsbury’s Local was delivered to the UK MD. Learnings from this have been implemented into the Property ways of working (for both new and existing space). 4. Mentoring (on-going) two junior members of Property one of whom was the first to be signed off from her graduate year.

Moved from the large format team to Express (Scotland, SW London & Surrey). Additional responsibilities (outside of core role stated in points 1 & 2 above) included:1. Facilitating the department monthly meeting. 2. Coaching new starters. Creating induction packs and supporting their early development. 3. Developing the ways of working within the Express team. This included the launch of the new Customer Insight Memo Pack.

12 month placement to support the Site Research team. Role involved writing marketing reports, tracking competitor developments & issuing store budgets. Responsible for handing the role over to our service centre in Bangalore. Writing detailed training guides for each process and spending four weeks in the UK office training two members of their team.

Relied upon to work independently.I successfully held the job down, full time, during University holidays (Summer, Christmas & Easter vacations), balancing a heavy workload and ensuring a reliable income.
