Born and raised in suburban Richmond, Virginia, I grew up in the Church of the Nazarene. Attending private Liberty Christian Elementary School for the first two years, then public schools from then on. Upon graduation I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist for 4 years. Then I enrolled at Trevecca Nazarene College (now University) where I met my wife of 29 years, Karen Elaine Brown. Upon graduation from TNC with a BA in Pastoral Ministry, I accepted a position as an Associate Pastor at Roanoke, VA Garden City Church of the Nazarene, where our one and only son, John Lewis was born. I served for nearly 3 years as minister of music at Garden City Church and in other unofficial functions as well, including youth pastor. After three years as an associate pastor, I was called to pastor the Nazarene congregation at West Point, VA Community Church. Serving in that position for nearly 7 years, I oversaw the renovation of the church building, the construction of a new parsonage and the planting of a daughter congregation in White Stone, Virginia. After receiving a call to Waynesville, NC, I began ministry as Pastor of the Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in that location in July of 2000. In my tenure at this location, Lakeview Church has burned her mortgage, purchased and paid for a brand new 12+2 passenger church mini-bus, celebrated both 50th and now 60th Anniversaries, launched at least a dozen new ministries, most of which continue to this day. IN my now 20 years as senior pastor, I have prepared and presented no less than 2,500 sermons and Bible studies, visited hundreds of patients and their families in hospitals, nursing homes and residences, and helped to manage somewhere around $1.3 million in donations. But by far, my greatest achievement is to have been used by God to lead dozens of people into personal relationship with Jesus Christ and several of them to accepting the call of God on their life for Christian ministry.
