Health And Fitness Manager

Gll

Cannock, Staffordshire, United Kingdom

A continuation of my previous role where I supervised the transition in club from Fitness First to Better Gym. Engaged in daily operations and Health & Safety of the facility and its occupants. Assisting the General Manager in his duties and in ensureing compliance with the new companies standards, operating procedures and reporting. During a challenging period where the gym was changing ownership to Better Gym from Fitness First I supervised the transition of 12 self employed PT’s onto new license agreements with a third party company. Liaising with the Personal trainers and the new company I was able to assist in resolving any contractual issues and satisfy all parties prior to the changeover date. This period saw many operating systems and procedures change for employed staff . Heading up the daily operations and health and safety checks I worked with my General Manager to condense and simplify the new processes before delivering training to the rest of the team. This made for a smoother transition period and allowed us to maintain our operational efficiency whilst dealing with member enquiries about what the changeover process would mean for them.Maintaining the fitness product in the gym to ensure the members saw no change in level of service was key to the success of this transition. Leading my team of Studio Events Manager, Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers to continue to deliver a timetable of varied classes enabled me to maintain the level of service members had seen and come to expect with Fitness First into the new brand, Better Gym.

Health And Fitness Manager

Cannock, Staffordshire, United Kingdom

Responsible for the day to day operation of the gym, ensuring the health and safety of staff and members whilst guaranteeing the highest possible standards of service for the members. Reporting to the General Manager at the same time as managing my own team of Fitness Instructors and self-employed Personal Trainers. Monitoring performance of staff and assisting the General Manager in ensuring the gym was always adequately staffed. Working with the sales team in club I was able to revamp the Sales to Fitness handover. Ensuring that new members were not only given an induction session but were assigned to a PT or FI based on their needs analysis and their fitness goals allowing for a better quality experience. This process improved conversion rates for the Personal Trainers and assisted their businesses growth alongside maintaining a positive Net Member Movement figure for the gym by all but eliminating 14 day cancellations. Maintaining the incoming sales was imperative during this time. To meet this end I worked closely with the Sales Manager on outreach projects in local businesses (BDF Newlife, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's to name a few) to extend our reach into the local community, offer corporate packages for staff and increase sales to the gym. With events varying from ‘Health & Wellness’ days to charity bike rides we supported our partners in the community and built solid relationships with their staff and customers.

Personal Trainer

Cannock

Reporting to the Health and Fitness manager whist operating my self-employed Personal Training business out of Fitness First’s Cannock faclility. This was a challenging role that called upon my ability to prioritise tasks and manage my own business alongside my duties and responsibilities to the gym.During my time here I established myself as the most exclusive PT in the club through my service offering. I always aimed to over deliver for my clients to make losing weight easier for them.In fulfilling my obligations to the gym, I was involved in the delivery of the clubs crossfit program of two sessions per week, as well as the maintenance of equipment and cleanliness standards. Also on outreach work, by promoting the gym in the local community and gathering leads not only for myself but for the sales team. One example of this we set up stalls at school fairs and I offered health & wellness checks to the general public, offering them a free trial at the gym and a follow up appointment with myself to check their progress. Due to my raised profile in this role I was awarded “Best Personal Training Business 2016” by thebestofcannock.co.uk as voted for by my clientele. I was also asked to be a part of the beta testing phase of the MyPTHub app, road testing the app designed to make training programs more accessible online for PT clients.

Team Leader

Birmingham, Trident Park

This role in a new club located just outside of Birmingham City Centre proved to be an excellent opportunity for me to establish myself in a management position in the fitness industry and create a culture of Personal Training within a newly built gym. Being a new facility there were of course teething problems, mainly around the facility itself. These challenges allowed me to recall my customer service training from previous part-time roles in retail and bar work and adopt a sympathetic approach to dealing with customer issues around these areas. My main duties were focused on building my own Personal Training business and that of 11 other PT’s to reach target capacity of 12 PT businesses each delivering a minimum of 40 hours coaching each month. In this position I became a mentor to the PT’s in the gym helping them to establish themselves and find their own niches, as well as leading by example with my own business. I established a weekly one to one mentor session with each PT and alongside this were weekly workshops where we all shared skills practical, educational and business. This led me to achieving my target of 12 PT’s in club within 6 months of opening. I also spent some time assisting the Sales Manager with his campaigns, gathering ‘warm’ PT leads to distribute to my PT’s to help them build their businesses. This experience helped me to form my own marketing strategies and help the other PT’s in the club up to skill with their sales techniques.

Personal Trainer And Fitness Consultant

Sutton Coldfield

After completing my Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification I began my journey into self-employment as a Personal Trainer I began to operate my business out of Fitness First Mere Green. This allowed me to put all my skills and experience into a challenging new role whilst learning how to operate a business for the first time. My business focused mainly on helping my clients individually with their weight loss goals using nutrition and a variety of weight training programs to achieve this. Alongside my PT business I was employed by the gym as a Fitness Consultant performing health checks, taking classes and maintaining equipment and gym cleanliness. Having two roles in the gym required me to learn how to prioritise workloads and differentiate between roles. This was my most challenging role to date because, being my first self-employed role and previously having support and guidance from managers and supervisors in the workplace, I was suddenly on my own. However, my resilient and tenacious nature came through and I began to build my first business, learning how to reflect on my own performance, evaluate it and make positive adjustments where needed.

Community Rugby Coach

Staffordshire

After being recommended for this role by the Rugby Development Officer I worked closely with at University I quickly became the lead coach in Staffordshire for the task of promoting Women’s Rugby and encouraging more females to take up the game. As funding for my role came from Sport England I had carefully set out KPI’s to attain with the aim of 120 females across Staffordshire playing Rugby in that academic year. I surpassed that by recruiting a total of 244 to the game, and helped Eccleshall RUFC recruit their very first Women’s U18’s team to help feed young talent into their senior squad.Alongside promoting Women’s Rugby I was the lead coach in Stafford and Wolverhampton helping to organise the National Schools Rugby Union Competitions and Inter-School Tournaments in these areas. By liaising with stakeholders such as local clubs, Colleges, Universities and volunteers it made each event a resounding success. I was also one of the first coaches to be included in the pilot scheme for the “O2 Touch Rugby” campaign bringing a non-contact, more accessible form of the game to clubs across Staffordshire. My involvement in new pilot schemes continued with the O2 sponsored Scrum Factory project, teaching teachers, coaches, and volunteers how to safely manage and teach scrummaging to children.
