Front line support of Ethyl Benzene , Hydrogen Fluoride Alkylation units, flare and fuel gas systems. In response to Shell's 'Ensuring Safe Production' initiative I wrote the refinery's proactive monitoring application, allowing panel operators to monitor, track and diagnose process drift.

In 2005 I moved to support the refinery Platforming\Aromatics\ and High vacuum units in their re-instrumentation from an old Foxboro DCS to the modern Foxboro IA(writing the control narratives and performing the factory acceptance testing ) - in addition to supporting their advanced control applications. To engage the operations team in the new control configurations I led training events using bespoke control simulations I created.

Supported Chemicals units(SHF Alcohols, Solvents, Resins). Advanced Process Control applications. Created a furnace safeguarding simulation to aid in operator training.

Supported Higher olefins plant and North West Ethylene pipeline, Ashless dispersant additive plant(batch) and an organic phosphorous catalyst plant(Rm17, batch). The Additives plant support included close links with the Shell Additves business and research functions. Faced with a failing legacy plant computer, I created a standalone plant computer replacement for data logging/analysis using macros(ADAM).I had a split role 1990-1995 supporting the batch plant and the department process computer as system manager(Setcon).

Stanlow Oils & Chemicals

Started my career in Operations working firstly on Oils in the crude distillation dept. then over to Chemicals on a phenol\acetone plant. In 1981 moved to Higher Olefins plant on the start up team. The plant start up involved a protracted period of commissioning, then a difficult, lengthy start up( being only one of two such plants in the world at the time - it was a continual learning process, stretching over three years, before things settled down). In the year before moving into Technology worked in the product scheduling role and began to perform routine tasks on the supervisory computer.
