As a Design Lead for the Cabinet Office within the Government of Ontario, my responsibilities include addressing client needs to find design solutions, producing accessible work that meets current AODA standards, as well as supporting marketing teams across the Ontario Public Service. We act as an in-house agency of sorts which the ministries can lean onto when they’re in need of creative for campaigns, collateral or even one-off social posts.In my time at the Government, I’ve lead the development and implementation of brand standards across government communications, both internal and public facing. I’ve worked with account and marketing leads, as well as directly with clients to assess design needs, creative briefs, and developing solutions. I’ve also developed assets and creative direction for a wide variety of projects including cannabis legalization and awareness, northern living, and the Ontario brand.

As a member of a boutique agency (at our most, we were 11 people) I had to wear a lot of hats to keep up with the busy demand that Eighty-Eight commanded. Working on projects that spanned clients in the tech, beauty, lifestyle and real estate markets, I worked on both print and digital campaigns, as well as out-of-home and content creation for social channels. Within these campaigns I contributed photography, illustration, copywriting and animation to further expand the agency’s scope and capabilities. While working at Eighty-Eight, I designed experiential, augmented reality, and digital campaigns for both Toronto and national markets. In addition, I worked (and in a few instances lead) on internal brand building and promotional campaigns, to raise awareness about our small, but mighty agency.

The Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) is the only national charitable foundation that raises awareness to generate funds for research into all aspects of HIV infection and AIDS. During my time there as their in-house designer, I undertook refreshing the brand to better communicate the advancements that had been made in HIV and AIDS research. I was in charge of creative direction and development for CANFAR’s communications, including fundraising campaigns, events, galas, and internal collateral. This ranged from out-of-home to mailers, print and digital advertising, social media, and annual reports.

Working in a rather busy and hectic atmosphere such as a Shoppers Drug Mart has allowed me to practice and hone my abilities to multitask and communicate clearly and concisely to both co-workers and customers while having to remain bright and positive. As well, being left to turn shipping boxes full of merchandise into attractive and desirable displays has allowed me to practice my visual communication skills and time management.

As a sales associate and mini-lab operator, I had to balance working both in front and back store while keeping the machinery (dating from the 80s and quite temperamental) functioning smoothly as well as helping any and all needs that the customers brought forward. I was required on a daily basis to practice multitasking, prioritizing, and extremely strong interpersonal skills.
