I lead the TMT (Technology, Media and Telecoms) and Cyber team at BLM. I specialise in defending claims for defamation, breach of confidence, privacy and breach of the Data Protection Act against publishers (usually acting on behalf of the publisher and its insurers). I have acted for a range of national and local newspapers and magazines as well as advertising agents and marketing consultants (and other media professionals), sports clubs/bodies, professional bodies, charities, local authorities, educational bodies and police forces. Our team addresses all the core issues associated with publishing, hosting, sharing, storing and transferring information. The team consists of seven specialist solicitors who together have a broad range of legal expertise and experience in giving advice on contentious and non-contentious technology issues, intellectual property matters (including copyright; trademark and domain name disputes), breach of confidence, defamation (including advice on dealing with defamatory websites, blogs, postings and emails), privacy, data protection (including advice on compliance and audits, best practice for data storage and requests for personal data), e-commerce, compliance and regulatory issues.This range of expertise makes us well placed to advise on "cyber" risks for organisations and their insurers and we work closely with a number of IT specialists to provide a comprehensive service advising on risk management as well as on data breaches.
