Tim ardently believes in the North East’s creative talent, he enthusiastically advocates and promotes the value of culture and heritage as social, economic & environmental pillars of sustainability for this amazing region. With a background in strategic planning and multi-agency working Tim has extensive understanding of the benefits and implementation of joined up working practices. Through his passion for sustainability Tim had a significant role in saving and re-energising the world renowned Settle to Carlisle Railway from closure in the late 1980’s.After living in the South East for many years Tim returned to the North East in 2016 his interests soon led to him supporting the Northumberland and Newcastle Society’s (N&N) work in protecting and promoting local heritage, being appointed chair of its Tyneside Committee in 2017. Tim also chairs the Newcastle Conservation Advisory Panel (NCAP) and is an active member of Newcastle Culture Compact. These roles led to Tim being instrumental in coordinating work towards establishing Newcastle’s Heritage Strategy Programme. This is a significant undertaking and is the focus of a partnership effort to implement a meaningful heritage strategy for Newcastle. Tim fervently supports sustainability in transport, planning and development and he is firmly committed to the concept of ‘the greenest building is the one that is already built’ as embodied in the N&N’s 'Empathy Architecture’ mission statement. Through his active promotion of the value renovation over demolition the N&N was specifically referenced in the UK Government’s Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission ‘Living with Beauty’ report (Jan 2020).Tim ardently believes in collaborative partnership working and he proactively promotes the North East’s heritage as an enduring positive influence that can make a real difference to its people.
