As Managing Editor for Archant my role focused on delivering the strategic and operational targets as set out by the chief content officer. I work closely with our newspaper and magazine editors to ensure there is good understanding of budgets around freelance and commissioned work, overtime etc. Negotiating and building relationships with suppliers means we can work more efficiently and effectively.I am also responsible for making sure our journalists and titles are fully compliant with the requirements of the industry regulator, The Independent Press Standards Organisation, as Archant's 'responsible person'. This sees me leading our internal and external communication around standards, complaint handling and regulatory issues. I deliver ongoing training to our teams to ensure full compliance, best practice and the highest ethical standards.I also have responsibility for legal costs and legal issues which arise in our publications and I work closely with insurers and law firms.My role requires me to have a forward-thinking and proactive approach to all media and all channels as our journalism and products become increasingly digitally focused with mobile, social media reach and websites ever more important to our audience.As part of our senior editorial team I am expected to have a strong commercial background as we constantly strive to look for opportunities to help customers reach their markets via our wide range of products and services in digital and in print .
