My other responsibilities include oversight of PayPal's relationship with key mobile OEMs including Microsoft/Nokia and RIM; ownership of all merchant opportunities in the Digital Goods and Media space including publishing, music, web VOD, gaming and ebook verticals; and I am first point of call on vetting new opportunities with partners who have disruptive use-cases for payment technology. Symbian provided at the time the world's most popular smartphone operating system. I joined the company's ecosystem development team as a segment owner for internet services, consumer apps and online brand partners. This segment had never been directly addressed before and was suffering from lack of attention. I was responsible for sole ownership of Symbian's relationships with players in this segment, who include Google, eBay, BBC, Skype, Yahoo!, Opera, Mozilla Foundation, Facebook etc. Soon after joining I was able to identify key pain points for large-scale developers and ISVs and I implemented sound segment strategy based around repositioning Symbian as runtime-agnostic rather than focused solely on native C++ development.To ensure a full stack of tools was available to developers, I engaged with browser and runtime suppliers (Mozilla, Opera, Skyfire, Adobe etc) and was intimately involved with inception of the Fennec (“Mobile Firefox”) project. I was thereby able to initiate and maintain strong relationships with key brand partners, resulting in first-on-Symbian deployments of key products and features including Google Maps and BBC iPlayer Mobile.
