  • Bae Systems Applied Intelligence
    Senior Software Engineer
Bae Systems Applied Intelligence Aug 2011 - Feb 2016
    Manchester, United Kingdom
Since August 2013 I have worked full-time on an R&D client project. My roles have involved working on the research team and bringing the results of our research through to development of a capability. For the last six months I have led the development team and overseen a shift from ‘traditional’ development strategies to a more agile approach. This has involved communicating the benefits to the client in order to have their support, training the team up so they understood what was expected and independently implementing techniques and processes to ensure best-practices were followed. This included setting up automated testing tools to enable test-driven development, defining a workflow and automating our release process. The change has been highly praised by the client, enabling a shift from a long overdue, delayed project to rapid iterations and early feedback, as well as more stable software. As well as managing the development team, I have developed a number of applications, frameworks, APIs and testing tools in a range of languages, mostly focusing on C++, C# and python.Prior to that I was the lead iOS engineer for the team, developing a number of secure applications for iOS devices written in Objective-C. I became the team expert in all things iOS, including the security of the platform and the forensic possibilities. My other responsibilities included reverse-engineering a number of applications and products to establish the security of them and provide in-depth, technical reports for clients.

Throughout my time at the Navigation, I have been involved in many aspects of the restaurant, working my way up to helping to manage the restaurant. This meant that I was responsible for all the customers in the restaurant and making sure that they were happy, making sure that there was good communication with the kitchen and making sure that the other waiters and waitresses knew what they had to do.Towards the end of my time at the Navigation I became responsible for running the entire restaurant on various occasions, being responsible for both the customers and all the staff.
  • Condon Designs Ltd
    Director
Condon Designs Ltd Feb 2010 - Jun 2011
Director of Condon Designs, which provided websites and online solutions for medium-to-small businesses
  • Bae Systems
    Undergraduate Engineer
    Bae Systems Jun 2009 - Jul 2010
During my placement year, I have been based Simulation and involved with a range of projects, being involved with both the Software Team and Visual Team.On the software team, I have been responsible for completely revamping the internal department website, to fit with the new BAE Systems website guidelines, to improve our brand image and to provide employees within the company a greater awareness of what we do. I needed to allow for easier expansion to the site, so redeveloped a lot of the code to allow a lot to be reused. I also had to develop and Content Management System (CMS) to allow it to be updated and added to by anyone in the department, without knowing any HTML.I was also tasked with developing an HTML email newsletter for our Business Unit, which was CMS based, and involved gathering requirements from them and developing an easy way to create them.I have also been responsible for setting up a new Project Management system, using VersionOne, as we shift our methods over to Agile Development. For this, I had to set up and maintain a dedicated server for VersionOne.My final few months spent in Simulation were spent working on a Virtual Cockpit Simulator. I helped create the virtual graphics using GLStudio which were photo realistic using high definition photographs of the cockpit. I then wrote the interface which worked between the visuals and the programs that drive the graphics, handling all the data and events to and from the graphics and driver programs.Whilst working on the Visuals Team I have mainly been involved in creating 3D Models of various objects, planes, building and structures using Blender and Creator, as well as creating various textures, and doing image manipulation using Photoshop.Throughout my time at BAE Systems, I was also an active member of the Education Ambassador program, acting as a STEM ambassador in the local area, which involved visiting schools and colleges to help with events and talk about engineering
