About Timothy Kelley

Currently the Director of the International School of Stuttgart, an International Baccalaureate World School, Tim Kelley has been an educator for over 30 years. He has grown up on school campuses as the son of two boarding school teachers. Formerly the Head of Ross School in East Hampton New York, Tim has also served as the Headmaster for the Leysin American School in Switzerland. He began his career at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham Massachusetts (USA) where he was an award-winning teacher and served as Department Chair for both the History and Performing Arts departments. He subsequently became an international educator, visiting schools all over the world as both an advocate for 21st century education, an accreditation officer for the Commission on American and International Schools Abroad, and as the Director of Admissions, prior to his becoming Headmaster, in Leysin.While at Ross School, Tim was privileged to work with some of the world's leading educational experts including Howard Gardner and Kurt Fischer. He also directed extremely successful and innovative fund-raising initiatives. In Switzerland, as a member of the Executive Committee for the Swiss Group of International Schools, he was responsible for in-depth studies of technology integration in the classroom and mother tongue proficiency. In Stuttgart, Tim has been responsible for multimillion Euro expansion projects, the installation of a new Dual Language Campus, progressive strategic planning and implementation, successful fund-raising and the development of leading pedagogical initiatives. Some years ago, Tim was elected to the Board of the Association of German International Schools and was subsequently elected Chair of the Executive Board. He has also been elected to the Board of the Educational Collaborative of International Schools (formerly the European Council of International Schools) and has served as the Chair for two years. A member of the Academy for International School Heads, he is also a recipient of a Klingenstein Fellowship on Educational Leadership. Tim has been a keynote speaker for TAISI (India) and other educational conferences while presenting frequently in schools throughout Europe and for the American Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart and Atlanta GA. He is a founding member of the Stuttgart International Rotary Club, serves on the Board of the German American Exchange in Munich and is consulting schools all over the world on leadership. governance and serves as a solution based thinking coach.

    The Director of ISS manages over 200 staff, and all programming for 860 students with over 40 different nationalities located on two campuses. In addition to implementing innovative pedagogical initiatives through the school's strategic plan, the Director is responsible for maintaining accreditation and authorization of all educational programs and systems. He is also seen as a leader in the greater Stuttgart area working with the school to successfully integrate students and families within the local community as part of a "Good Neighbor" strategic goal. Together with the Board of Trustees, the Director recently successfully lobbied for governmental support in a very fiscally conservative environment in the state of Baden Wuerttemberg. In addition, the Director has overseen extensive renovations in the ISS science facilities and collaborative spaces as well as having opened a new facility for the ISS satellite campus in Sindelfingen. The Director has also managed to complete a new athletics and middle school building with the largest fund raising result in school history. Currently, the school is implementing the most ambitious strategic plan in its history, "The Future of Education. Now" which includes a 25 million Euro campus re-build and renovation set for completion in 2023. The school has also completely re-organized its by-laws to reflect best practice governance and has successfully implemented a state of the art, student information system for greater learning management to support its fully aligned curriculum and differentiated assessment in all subject areas. Recognized as an educationally leading international educational institution in the Germany, ISS has been regularly sending students to highly selective universities throughout the world.
