● Investigated the application of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for autonomous optical navigation, achieving a 91% accuracy rate in detecting craters on the surface of the Moon out to 70,000 km.● Validated the robustness of CNNs in diverse light and terrain conditions, maintaining high detection accuracy of craters with a crater area percent error of 6.834% and a normalized angular error of 0.088%.● Coded simulation architecture using Python, POV-Ray ray-tracing software for synthetic image generation, and YOLOv5 computer vision model for training.● Presented findings at the 2023 AAS/AIAA Astrodynamics Specialist Conference and the 2024 JAXA Astrodynamics and Flight Mechanics Workshop.
